Synopsis

Welcome to Babylon, Hotel Babylon, that is; a luxury hotel with an eclectic workforce driving it along; Through a veil of consummate professionalism, the guests aren’t privy to the murkier goings-on but let head receptionist Charlie be your guide to what no one else is meant to see; glitzy manager Rebecca keeps the hotel ticking along but isn’t capable of balancing her working week with her home life; receptionist Anna has a seductive eye for the wealthier guests; concierge Tony can get you anything you need, just as long as you’re willing to pay; and then there’s the chambermaids – working on the frontline and seeing everything. But if the staff aren’t wacky enough, into their world come the guests; a mixed bag of millionaires, eccentric rockers and high class whores; a concoction of lethal and sometimes hilarious ingredients. Includes all the episodes from the show's third series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! Love it! Love it!, 15 Mar 2009
Canno wait for this to come out - don't actually understad why it takes so long - i think because they release the DVD at the same time as the new series come on TV .

Such a good show - don't even need to buy the other two series to make sense of it (although i would advise you to as its great).

3.0 out of 5 stars From Classy to Silly, 16 Aug 2009

Hotel Babylon started out as a stylized, pacey and classy look at the goings on at a five-star hotel. With this season the writers and directors have opted to give the show a more broadly comedic twist, which falls rather flat most of the time. Comedy is really hard and dramedy is even harder because finding the right balance between the dramatic and comedic elements is so difficult. Well, enough lecturing from me - bottom line: It doesn't work. For me. I miss the classiness and (emotional) "reality" of the former seasons and I think the directors need to be a LOT sharper and rein in the performances of both leads and guest performers. Most of the time they're allowed to ham everything up in the extreme. Sharpen up, guys - the show still has great potential.

3.0 out of 5 stars So disappointing, 14 Aug 2009

If you're familiar with Series 1 and 2 this is going to be a BIG letdown, especially as the series progresses. Tasmin Outhwaite as General Manager has left by the start of this series and with Charlie (Max Beesley) taking over the reigns the important chemistry between the top two is missing. Things go from bad to worse when Charlie leaves half way through the series and is replaced by an unbelievably weak and young new GM to take over at the top.
This means that more and more falls upon the other characters to bring the show to life. As the plots become more and more outlandish, so does their acting, which become increasingly comic - in a really unfunny way.
I loved the first two series. My only hope is that some dignity is restored in Series 4.
