Product Description

Jason finally gets his- but the door is left open for yet another sequel.

From Amazon.co.uk

Amateur butcher and enthusiastic hockey fan Jason Vorhees is back in business, and business is good. Can a plucky young boy stop the madness before Camp Crystal Lake's population report takes yet another machete-aided dip? The stalk-and-slash formula was pretty narcoleptic by this point, but this otherwise humdrum entry is distinguished by some unusual casting choices (Crispin Glover as a stud in training? Corey Feldman as a genius?) and the splattery return of makeup master Tom Savini. The fact that this installment was titled The Final Chapter may seem to contradict the existence of the numerous sequels that followed, but it's not as if logic was ever this series' strong point to begin with. --Andrew Wright

I'm surprised that this is the only Friday The 13th film i have reviewed. I guess I've just seen them all so many times and left it for others to review. I recently upgraded to this 2009 Deluxe Edition and it's a cracker. Of course the transfer is great but the extras on here really get the juices flowing. You have 2 commentaries. 1st with the director and 2nd a fan commentary with horror directors Adam Green and Joe Lynch. Also are featurettes and interviews,a lost alternative ending! and slashed scenes. There are some great extended and cut scenes that never saw the light of day until now that are a joy to watch for fans.

The Final Chapter is often considered the best in the series by many fans and I won't argue with that. This is a high quality slasher with dark atmosphere and suspense. It's the last time that Jason looked truly chilling and with Tom Savini back for the FX the deaths are cool. The ending in the rainstorm is very atmospheric and the whole chase and face off is exciting and superior. This part contains 2 of my fave Friday characters Jimbo and Ted, don't ask me why but I just find their banter amusing! (and who can forget Jimbo's dance moves). After this none of the sequels to come could be taken seriously as proper horror, but that's not to say that they are bad. Some that followed were very entertaining especially part 6 when Jason returns in zombie form.

the body count continues in the fourth instalment of this vivid thriller - story in the widely successful friday the 13th series Jason, crystal lakes's least popular citizen, returns to wreck further havoc in friday the 13th - the final chapter. after his revival in a hospital morgue, the hockey-masked murdurer fixes his vengeful attention on the jarvis family and a group of hitherto carefree teens. Young tommy jarvis is an aficionado of horror films with a special talent for masks and make-up. has the diabolical jason finaly met his match? tommy has an expected turn at the end, but you will have to buy this first and you won't regret it!

"Has the diabolical Jason finally met his match?" Uh, no. Corey Feldman, people; we are talking about Corey Feldman here. Of all the people on the planet, Corey Feldman is just about the last person capable of taking Jason out of the game. Truly, I had forgotten that Feldman was Jason's main event opponent in this "final chapter" of the series. Rightly or wrongly, that just takes something away from what is otherwise a darn good sequel's sequel's sequel - until the ending, anyway. Personally, I think this series jumped the shark when Feldman's character devised his unique plan for facing Jason face to face. In fact, I consider the shark re-jumped in the final frame of the film. It's still a strong entry in the series, the last one that actually tries to scare the audience, but the ending is just a little too hard for me to swallow.

In case you're not scoring at home, here's where we are. It's been five years since Mrs. Voorhees went postal all over Camp Crystal Lake - and less than a week since Jason made his killing debut in the second film. The third movie took up where the second one ended, and now this one takes up where the third one ended. That adds up to two massacres within a matter of days. Now Jason's body has disappeared from the morgue (along with a disgusting doc and a pretty nurse). Now if I were living in the immediate area of these bloodlettings with a hot teenaged daughter and a nerdy young son, I think I'd probably keep them close to home for awhile, especially at night. Not so with Mrs.

SYNOPSIS

Picking up right after the events of FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3, Jason Voorhees, presumed dead, is brought to the morgue, where he is miraculously revived and butchers his way back to Crystal Lake.
At Crystal Lake he finds several willing victims, including a boy, his older sister and mother...

THE PROS & CONS

FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER is (in my opinion) the best film of the entire series (yes, better than the original!). Sure, it has it's fair share of dumb teenagers, horrible acting, incredibly stupid dialogue and you're basically watching the same movie as the previous 3 installments, but what THE FINAL CHAPTER's got right are the gory kills, the most important thing about a slasher movie. The makeup effects are incredible, created by Tom Savini, who also did the effects in another Joseph Zito film, THE BURNING.
While quite a lot of gore still remains (which can't be said for parts 5-7), the movie was literally butchered by the MPAA, as several scenes ended up on the cutting room floor, probably never to be seen again, as the unrated version has not been released up to this day. Make no mistake, the kills in this part are the bloddiest of the entire series. It was cut even more by the BBFC, especially the notorious machete to the head scene, until the uncut theatrical version was finally passed in 2001.
The acting ranges from bad to ok, given the fact that this kind of movie really doesn't give many opportunities for notable acting.
