Synopsis

After the success of the documentary BUS 174, Jose Padilha directs this drama set in Rio de Janeiro's favelas in 1997. The captain of the state police force (Wagner Maura) faces pressure from within and without, as he seeks his own replacement so he can devote his time to being a father instead of fighting the seemingly impossible battle against crime. ELITE SQUAD (TROPA DE ELITE) is based on the experiences of one of its screenwriters, Rodrigo Pimental. Padilha and CITY OF GOD's Braulio Mantovani also earn credit for the script.

This movie is fantastic because show us the real Rio de Janeiro in the way of the movie "City of God". why? Because what hapen's in Rio de Janeiro is what You see in the movie, not only the sea sight, Pão da Açucar hill, ore other turist places, that's why it was the most copied film, ilegally, in Brasil. This company, B.O.P., exist to fight the main drug dealers, that control the "morros",that kind of villages has more people than the most part of citys that you imagine, and to deal with the corrupt police agents. Few weeks ago four agents were shot down in action, they are fantastic as you can watch in this movie.

The best brazilian movie of all the times. City of God is not truth. Was good, but not the best. The elite squad is more real. Jose Padilha, Director of this movie, maked the radiography of the problems of Rio, and showed the history with emotion and action. Very good. Be happy! Buy and Enjoy!

I live in Canada but ordered from the UK since I have a region free player. This was a blind buy for me but what a fascinating movie to watch. The story is really compelling, gritty and intense. It gives you great insight in some parts of Brazil that most people don't see which is run by drug dealers and criminals. The hand held camera work is also outstanding. It feels more like a documentary than an actual movie. You would never a see a film like this made about essentialy a vigilante police force in North America. The Blu also looks and sounds great!!

Highly Recommended!!!
