Product Description

Extended cut of the made-for-television thriller set after the events of season six of the award-winning drama series. On the day of President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones)'s inauguration, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), who is now working as a missionary in the African nation of Sangala, finds himself caught in the middle of a major uprising. Still wanted by the American government for his recent misdeeds, Bauer risks his life and freedom to prevent a brutal warlord from drafting a group of innocent children into his murderous militia and to transport the children to the safety of the American Embassy.

From Amazon.co.uk

Love him or hate him, it’s good to have Jack Bauer back on our screens. Played with sneer and menace by Kiefer Sutherland, the ruthless ex-Counter Terrorism Unit agent is the kind of guy you’re glad is on your side, and this time, 24: Redemption finds him facing up to demons of his own.

Set between the sixth and seventh seasons of 24, Redemption transports Jack Bauer to Africa, and it doesn’t take long for trouble to flare up. His mission this time, only inevitably it gets more complex than this, is to get a group of orphans to the Embassy safely, even if it means putting his own freedom on the line.

While 24: Redemption leaves some of the familiar cast of the show at home, it does have some impressive names joining Sutherland on this particular adventure. Robert Carlyle’s mysterious character for one is a fine addition, and getting Jon Voight into a villainous role is entirely to be encouraged.

Most impressive of all though, 24: Redemption shows real signs of the franchise getting back on its feet, after the juddering, muddled sixth season, that left many wondering if the show had enjoyed its best days. Now? There’s a real thirst for season seven, and a hope that the extended break the show has enjoyed has been put to good use. Because nobody, nobody does this kind of edge-of-the-seat TV thriller better than the 24 team. --Jon Foster

Only one thing to be said about this dvd! buy it for the uncut version its much more like a 24 movie! brillant. Sky ruined this prequel with cuts and adverts and not sure the cheaper dvd of this is much better so def buy this version! and the extras are great :)

Jack is back! any real 24 fan knows that fact alone is worth 5 stars in itself.

I'm sure you know the score by now: The story picks up sometime over a year after the events of season 6 and follows Jack over the course of 2 hrs of saving/ending lives in the African nation of Sengala.

Ok, so this isn't a full season of 24 and as such you can't approach it with the same level of expectation. As you watch this you'll realise just how brief 97 minutes can be: it isn't anywhere near long enough to pack in all the twists and turns of a full season but then i never really expected it to. This is for all those 24 fans who find themselves wondering "What happened when Jack was undercover with the Salazars?" or "What actually happened in China?" or "Where has Nina been for the last year?". Of course, it doesn't actually answer any of those questions but what Redemption does offer is an insight into what is going on between seasons so that by the time season 7 comes along you'll feel like you have at least a few of the answers to all those questions that you can't help but ask when you start a season.

Most crucially, in my opinion, Redemption re-affirms what is so great about 24. I found that by season 6 i was beginning to forget what i loved about Jack; sure, he's a killing machine - but there's more complexity to his character than first meets the eye and it's this complicated, inner turmoil that makes Jack even more of a hero. I had serious worries that Jack's personal demons would shape him into a colder man than the one we've seen so far but thankfully Redemption offers you a chance to see Jack as a calmer, softer and ultimately more likable character. This can only bode well for season 7.

I'd be lying if i said Redemption didn't have flaws.

I wouldn't say this was of one the best films I've ever seen, but it does what it says on the tin, which is to provide a bridge between seasons 6 and 7 ... I think it suffers partly from being part of the 24 series - if it had been a standalone film, it would probably merit 4 stars, but the natural thing to do is to compare it to the seasons that came before it, and in the space of 2 hours, it can't really match the drama and suspense that you get from watching an entire season.

In conclusion, if you're a 24 fan, you won't be disappointed by this film, but you won't think it's a patch on the full seasons, either.

Its been a while since 24 was last on our screens, but finally its back and i'm happy to report its more explosive and action packed as ever. I'm gonna keep this short but sweet, all 24 fans should see this. Its great to finally see Jack out of LA but to see him in Africa is stunning, having Africa as the backdrop makes all the action even more breathetaking. The acting is superb as always and Cherry Jones aka the new female president is wonderful. Theres really a stunning cast here including Robert Carlyle and Jon Voight so they really havent messed around this year on 24, and it shows just how 24s critical acclaim has spread into the celeberity world. The special features with this DVD make the whole thing worth buying, theres a commentary track, a making of Redemption but perhaps what most people will be buying this for is to check out the extended version of Redemption (over 15 minutes put back in to the movie) plus the first 17 minutes of Season 7 episode 1 (which is fantastic) not to mention the season 7 trailer and a montage of scenes from the first 14 episodes of season 7. So all fans should have this sitting produly beside their other DVDs of 24. Can i also just say that SKY1 absolutely ruined this movie with all the breaks every 10 minutes, so to do Redemption justice you really have to watch it the way it was meant to be seen. ON DVD.

Well done yet again Mr Sutherland, My Cassar and the whole team behind
24.

Ps. You should also buy the Redemption soundtrack, Sean Callery does an amazing job in this movie so its worth looking into that. Link Below for those intreasted.

Set somewhere in Africa (mostly), Jack is back. Although the plot is somewhat predictable, the tension crackles throughout, and the ending sets up series 7 nicely. Meanwhile on the other side of the Atlantic, I am not altogether convinced by the new lady President, but Jon Voight as the new baddie shows real menace - this looks extremely promising indeed. 24 has provided consistently rivetting viewing throughout its long run (except for the slight dip in Series 6) and is streets ahead of most other American long running series (with the possible exception of The West Wing). Redemption is a fitting prequel to the new series -bring it on!
