DVD Description

Give yourself double the fun with this Batman Begins / The Dark Knight double pack.

Batman Begins

Genius of mystery and intrigue Christopher Nolan (Memento) helms this prequel to the Batman films based on the DC Comics series, explaining how Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) the billionaire prince of Gotham whose parents were killed in an alleyway mugging transformed into the crime-fighting superhero. With flashbacks to his privileged childhood, young Master Wayne, as he is called by the butler Alfred (Michael Caine), develops a terrible fear of bats when he falls through the backyard garden into a hidden cave. As a young adult, Wayne lives among the League of Shadows, a martial arts group in the mountains of Asia. His leaders Ra's al Ghul (Ken Watanabe) and Henri Ducard (Liam Neeson) teach him strength, endurance, and unfortunately evil, against which he naturally rebels. Returning to Gotham and reinstating himself as a dapper socialite and the rightful heir to his parents' enterprise, Wayne quickly devises his secret identity, commanding help from the gadgetry expert Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman). With one eye on his childhood playmate Rachel (Katie Holmes) now a beautiful woman and dedicated lawyer and the other on his mission to save Gotham from criminal corruption, Batman makes his fledgling debut. But when the blue-blooded mastermind Dr. Crane (Cillian Murphy) who steals every scene with chilling menace taints the water system with a hallucinatory substance, Batman realises he has met his first true opponent. An attitude of grave seriousness elevates Batman Begins above more cartoony Batman movies, as Nolan crafts a dark drama that thrives on sci-fi intrigue. Bale strides into the role with grace, adding refinement that is seldom seen in action-oriented films. And while the action scenes explode with high-tech glitz and fast-moving thrills, they are evenly placed among sequences of plot and character development, making for a complex and satisfying viewing experience.

The Dark Knight

Director Christopher Nolan (The Prestige) returns to Gotham City with this sequel to the critically-acclaimed fan favourite, Batman Begins.

In The Dark Knight, Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman, The Fifth Element) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart, No Reservations), Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organisations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal psychotic mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as the Joker (Heath Ledger, Brokeback Mountain). What ensues will blow your mind away. From its release on the big screen The Dark Knight has fast become one of the biggest grossing films world-wide.

Synopsis

Based on the DC Comics series, BATMAN BEGINS explains Bruce Wayne's (Christian Bale) transformation from billionaire playboy to crime-fighting 'Caped Crusader'. In this welcome addition to the saga, our hero faces the triple threat of martial arts leader Ra's al Ghul (Ken Watanabe), hallucinogen-wielding Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy), and a wave of corruption that has descended on Gotham.
Director Christopher Nolan's second offering, THE DARK KNIGHT, pits Batman against two new enemies: the Joker (Heath Ledger in a gleefully maniacal, tour de force performance) and Two Face (Aaron Eckhart), a former politician with an axe to grind.
Nolan has successfully steered the look and feel of both movies away from the gothic, almost cartoonish style that characterised Tim Burton's films, opting instead for a gritty realism that takes the franchise in a darker, more dramatic direction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Audio track in Castilian Spanish too, 12 Dec 2008
Just to inform, those Blu Rays has too the audio track in CASTILIAN SPANISH, BRAZILIAN PORTUGUES, FRENCH, ITALIAN and GERMAN. And you can see too all the extras with subtitles in those languages.

Both films have extraodinary and fantastic extras, and specially the movie The Dark Knight is one of the best of the last decade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Classics, 29 Dec 2008
By Stevie G "Stevie G" (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews

Christopher Nolan's dark re-boot of the Batman franchise is better than anyone could have expected. After all, the last film before Begins was the shockingly abysmal Batman & Robin. Unsurprisingly, Begins is an origins story, with the campness nowhere in sight.

And even with the mountain of hype surrounding the recent Dark Knight, Nolan manages to meet, and in most cases exceed these expectations. Film of the year, and for my money the greatest superhero movie of all time. Much has been said about Heath Ledgers performance, and with good reason. He gives a truly haunting performance as The Joker. Whether its awarded an Oscar remains to be seen, but will be remembered for a very long time.

On Blu Ray these films are superb. Theres a phenomenal level of detail, even by HD standards. In addition, theres a fanatical amount of extras/ making of's / documentaries etc. Anyone interested in this sort of thing will be kept busy for a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 2 Batman Movies That Matter, 15 Dec 2008
I loved Batman Begins, even though I am not a big fan of the older Batman movies. So, I was looking forward to the Dark Knight, though I felt it couldn't be better than the previous movie (Batman Begins).

I wouldn't compare them and say which is better or worse, but I will say that they are two impressive movies.
The Dark Knight doesn't have the mystical touch that Batman Begins has, and it seems to be just an action comic-book movie in the beginning. However, it proves to be much more than just that as all the pieces fall into place.
There is a consequent theme throughout, which might not be obvious right away.

It was a strange experience, well worth the invested time.
The cast is outstanding, and Christian Bale is incredible, as usual.
Heath Ledger gave his performance of a lifetime... truly.
Michael Caine is magical, even though he is much less prominent in the Dark Knight than he was in Batman Begins. His role in Batman Begins was superb.

All in all, this is a great package, worth 5 stars, full of extras that I haven't watched yet, but am leaving as a separate pleasure for another evening.
