Product Description

Product Description

King of EuroSleaze, Jess Franco (Bloody Moon, Macumba Sexual) takes on the 80's cannibal genre and delivers a jungle sickie like no other! When a safari of sexy babes and violent boneheads ventures into native-crazed wilderness, Uncle Jess unleashes a deluge of relentless nudity, dubious anthropology and his own brand of cut-rate carnage. Ursula Fellner (Sadomania), Al Cliver (Zombie), Robeert Foster (Cannibal Terror) and Gisela Hahn (Contamination) co-star in this original 'Video Nasty' - also tastefully known as 'Sexo Cannibal' and 'Mandingo Manhunter' - with something to offend everyone, now fully restored fromt he original Spanish negative and presented uncut and uncensored for the first time ever in the UK.

Review

Over the top perversity! A film that manages to tap into race exploitation, sex exploitation, cannibal exploitation and shock exploitation! --Black Horror Movies

An actress is kidnapped for ransom and is taken to an island where a cannibal tribe also reside. Can the two rescuers get her out before the tribe get to her.

Well what can be said about this poor use of film stock. Yes it's a Jesus Franco film so a high quality production shouldn't be expected, but this is just a mind numbingly boring film. The opening 2 scenes of a woman being chased and killed by cannibals and the actress getting kidnapped could have been filmed in a few minutes but take a very long 15 to conclude, that's a major problem with this everything is dragged out so long turgidity sets in and it's difficult to sit through. The dubbing is absolutely atrocious and sounds like the actors were shouting into the microphone, the violent effects are laughable, the blood is so thick it looks like a pale red soup & severed heads that are clearly still attached to a body and all the others are just as bad. The make-up on the monsters eyes look like Plasticine stuck on at nursery school and the soundtrack is truly nauseating. The old "favourite" the Franco zoom is seemingly in endless use here, but not just on naked female bodies (there are some disgusting shots of this and the monster who walks around naked) a totem pole gets about a dozen of them. The plot is just about serviceable but Franco takes an age to develop it tedium sets in early the 102 minute run time is difficult to do in one go. Al Cliver, Werner Pochath & Gisela Hahn decent exploitation stars are wasted in poor roles. The Portuguese locations are gorgeous though and this is one aspect Franco doesn't do a bad job of filming.

How this mess was ever thought obscene, depraved or corrupt by the police or DPP shows just how idiotic the video nasty debacle was.

I've seen some low quality films before, and this is one of them.
The acting is so wooden Pinocchio would be proud.
The dubbed English has to be heard to be believed, it is appalling.
The "gore" is pathetic, with blood the colour of a post box and of the same consistency as treacle.
And as for the "cannibal"?...has to be seen to be believed the make up is so laughable.
But I guess that it was made on a shoestring budget, and probably the poor quality of everything was deliberate.
I cannot believe the actors, director, crew, production team were proud of the end result. Or maybe they were?

I adore this Franco movie. A true exploitation classic. For my review (In true exploitation style), I refer you all to A. Griffiths review above (or below)this one. Griffiths has written an in depth review as to why this movie is so bad (and then gives 1 star). Well read his (her) review because it actually explains in great detail WHY THIS FILM IS FANTASTIC. Griffiths reasons for the film being rubbish are my reasons for the film being highly entertaining (especially if you are a lover of trash cinema). Nuff saud.

This was one of those films that was so bad it became quite enjoyable, especially the coloured dude with the plasticine eyes - the budget for special effects must have cost as much as a packet of plasticine.
I cannot believe there are people out there who actually rate Jess Franco.
Bloody awful is not the words to describe just how bad this is...

How this film got to be a "video nasty" in the UK I will never know...it's one of the most dire and dreary excuses for "entertainment" I have ever seen. The plot centres around the kidnapping of a glamorous actress, who is hauled off to some remote island while her captors send off their ransom demands. The actress's father (or whoever) dispatches two mercenaries to collect the girl. Arriving on the island they try to outwit the kidnappers and save the girl. This is all very boring, so to liven things up, the film gives us a tribe of natives who are minding their own business and sacrificing young maidens regularly to a hideous mutant person who like to attack his victims and eat their skin off. I'm sure you can guess the rest.

Even if that was an interesting plot, the film manages to bungle absolutely everything. If you've ever seen any European cannibal shockers from the 1980's before, you might be hoping for some gory thrills, but there's nothing like that here. Because this is a Jess Franco film, all the nudity is upped, and everything else is botched. All we have are cheap shoddy effects, dreadful acting and terrible dubbing. Here's a quick checklist of the crud you're going to have to put up with if you choose to sit through this:

1. A tribe of natives who look like a rounded up bunch of staff from the local bars, kitted out with with loincloths and pointy sticks. There isn't even a token nod to trying to assemble people with a similar ethnic background to make up this so called "lost tribe".
2. A prowling monster who turns out to be a tall black guy with two crusty ping bong balls stuck over his eyes. He also "eats" skin in a way you would only do while being filmed in close-up for shock effect...i.

Pretty good if you are a fan of trashy/sleazy fun movies. The story is basically about a model who is kidnapped by a bunch of guys hiding in a jungle and 2 dudes go to pay them to get her back but the whole thing goes wrong. On the same island too is a tribe who worship a strange monster dude who wanders the island killing random people.

This movie is packed with nudity as you would expect nothing less from Jess Franco and some gore although not a huge amount. The main girl who is kidnapped you get to see naked a lot of times and you are sure happy you do as she has a crackin' body!

The 'monster' is pretty cheesy looking though and the bad dubbing makes you cringe and some of the shots showing people roaming the jungle could had been cut a little shorter but other than these things its good fun if you want to just turn off your brain for an hour and a half and watch naked girls and some action and a little gore.
