Product Description

CD Description

Leon Jackson's debut album comes a full ten months after heshot to unexpected fame as the winner of the 2007 television talent show The X Factor. Like Leona Lewis in the previousyear, a long wait between the first single (included here as a bonus track) and the release of the debut album ensued, ensuring that anticipation for its arrival is paramount. Jackson's soulful, modern and vaguely jazz-indebted vocals are used to maximum effect on twelve songs loosely influenced bythe likes of Michael Buble and singer-songwriters in a morevintage vein. Features the single 'Don't Call This Love'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent debut album, 9 Dec 2008
'Right Now' is Leon Jackson's debut album and it is very impressive. It's hard to believe that such a rich and mature-sounding vocal can come from a 19-year-old lad.

There's a good mix of jazz, soul and pop. Leon's vocal shines in each of the genres. 'Stargazing' (my favourite), 'Fingerprints' and 'Ordinary Days' are gentle pop songs, with an abundance of acoustic guitar and piano. 'Stargazing' is the stand-out of the three, in my opinion. The soaring chorus and key change near the end of the song give me goosebumps. A truly beautiful song, coupled with Leon's warm and emotive vocal.

'Could Do Better' is one of the stand-outs from the 'BIG' songs. It would make a fabulous theme tune for the next Bond movie!

'Creative' is due to be released as the next UK single soon. It is upbeat and insanely catchy... and gets stuck in your head after only one or two listens. Leon's vocal is rich and jazzy, and the song itself has a distinct Samba feel to it. Kind of like a Samba-ish, but jazzy Ricky Martin! This song will have you up and dancing every time you listen to it!

Moving on to song No.12 - 'Caledonia'. This is the best version I've ever heard of this song. Leon is proud of his Scottish heritage, and it really shows in his heartfelt and emotional vocal.

I could write so much more, but it would end up as a huge essay! These songs are all just so good. The combination of such good songs and Leon's superb warm and rich voice, makes this album exceptionally excellent! Time was spent on recording this album and it shows. It oozes class.

Five stars for the album

and

an extra five stars for the singer! The future is looking bright for this young Scottish lad. Apparently, there is already interest outside of the UK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly Wonderful Suprise, 19 Oct 2008
By T. woodhouse - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
After the good but not great first single of Dont Call This Love I was wondering what to expect from the debut album from young Leon Jackson. A totally different singer to the previous winner of X Factor, Leona Lewis, but just as impressive and distinctive vocally, Leon has more in common with the great rat pack artists of yesteryear and for an untrained 19 year-old it is all the more impressive that he has recorded a first album of such distinction, maturity and perfect vocals. It is like a different person takes over when he sings from the shy, nervous youngster so unsure of himself when placed in front of an audience. Songs like the anthemic Stargazing written by Alan Chung, more usually to be found writing for Michael Buble', are immediately engraved in people's heads with the wonderful words and music so rare in many of today's songs. Coldplay would have sold their souls for this song. Then there is All In Good Time - a catchy singalong song which again seems like one of the old school classics but is in fact a brand new song written by Peter Gordeno who has had a hand in a number of the new songs on this debut album including the Jewel in the Crown of Creative, a fantastic ratpack style uptempo song lent a modern edge with a female backing that literally wont leave your head. Why this was never chosen as the first single from the album I will never know. A big mistake in my opinion. The song Could Do Better wouldnt look out of place on a George Michael album tinged with lush vocals and a jazzy score.Ordinary Days is another very good song though suffers in comparison to the three classic songs of Creative, Stargazing and All In Good Time. The covers are all excellent though special mentiom must go to You Dont Know Me and A Song For You which sound like someone singing who has perfected his craft after being in the business for years.
A fantastic debut album that sounds like nothing you would expect of someone who has won a television reality show. Give it a go - you will be very glad that you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic album from someone you wouldn't expect to be good., 7 Dec 2008
1. Don't call this love- not amazing, but still o.k. First single
5/10

2. Creative- second single, excellent jazzy bluesy song. Catchy chorus, sung well.
8/10

3. Stargazing- one of my favourites. Should be a single. Catchy ballad and sung really well, could easily be a Michael Buble song!
10/10

4. All in good time- A real grower, possible single material.
8/10

5. Right Now- Star song, be disaponted if not a single. Big band style song, with lots of good solos from trumpets, easy listning.
10/10

6. You don't know me- not one of the greatest on the album, one of the worst, a laid back gentle swing.
6/10

7. Ordinary Days- Very similar of "When you believe". An x factor type winning song. Sung extremly well. Certanly one of my favourites.
10/10

8. A song for you- Lacks the big moment, and leon shouts too much.
3/10

9. Fingerprints- good to start with, but now I skip it every time. Well sung though.
7/10

10- Could do better- a real grower.
9/10

11. Misty Blue- a cover, not incredible, bit boring.
6/10

12. Caledonia- an obvious cover, probably the best version of this song i've heard. ONe of the better songs on the album.
10/10

13. When you believe- Really good, I like it, though i know lots of people who hate this song, song well (but Rhydians version was better)!
9/10

Overall a really good collection and thats why its 5 stars. deserves too well. People who like Michael Buble, Eoghan Quigg and Paulo Nutini will like a lot here.

Not what I was expecting.Too much bandy jazzy. I wish they choose one style and kept there.Instead, it's a mash of all styles and looks added up. Pity.
