Synopsis
After their hit THE EYE was remade by others, this time the Pang Brothers take the wheel as they revisit their first film together. In BANGKOK DANGEROUS, Nicolas Cage (NATIONAL TREASURE, LORD OF WAR) stars as Joe, a hit man who goes to Thailand on a mission. The beauty of both the city and one of its residents distracts Joe, and he begins to take a young man under his wing, but his boss won't let the original goal be forgotten.

Mr Cage is going seriously loopy. The National Treasure stuff was daft but kinda enjoyable because they know it's daft and we know it's daft and nobody should take it seriously. This, on the other hand, is utter rubbish. I know it's a stylistic excercise. I know it's part of a tradition of SE Asian films. But.. oh dear.... it's woeful.

It's the story of a lonely hitman who only wants to connect with the rest of humanity. Despite his ability to slaughter anyone for money, he finally finds solace in the doe like eyes of a deaf and dumb sales assistance from the local chemists ('NO.. I WANT SOMETHING TO TAKE AWAY THE PAIN') and the cocky street ruffian with a heart of gold. When a hit on a 'good guy' politician becomes one moral step too far he decides to seek retribution on the bad guys who set it all up (having already wacked 3 of their previous targets).

If that doesn't put you off, then the lingering, pseudo-what-is-life-all-about guff and the year long shots of the deep, disturbed but 'finally realising the truth about life' eyes of Mr Cage should finally make you scream for mercy.

Second worse film of the year.

This is not one of Mr Cages better films come to that has he done one lately the answer is no not since Con Air which was a good action film. This film however was Mr Cage falling in love with a deaf girl which would have been alright if it had been done better and as for him being a hitman you are having a laugh. I also was led to believe it was a action film I must of drifted off at some point because there was nothing really to note. Please do not waste your money on this pile of rubbish you have been warned it really is not good viewing.

I had intended to see this at the cinema when it came out, I am glad I missed it. Promoted as an action film I expected some action, there is very little, nor is there ever much tension. The story focuses on Nic Cages assassin falling in love with a deaf girl, which would be fine if it was all handled well. Sadly the romance is clumsy and unconvincing and you never really beleive in Cage as a hitman either. Ultimate the film fails to get the audience to suspend disbelief. Shame.
