Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

There never was a video game of Casino Royale, but now Activision is making up for lost time with a title that incorporates both Casino Royale and its immediate sequel, Quantum of Solace. It’s primarily a first-person shooter, but it does switch to an over-the-shoulder view when hiding under cover or taking part in interactive cut scenes.
Daniel Craig is a big games fan and has taken a personal interest in the game
Almost everything in the game can be destroyed or damaged
Stealth is just as important as gunplay when you’re James Bond
Close combat switches out of first person view for a more cinematic effect

Just like the Bond movies, the game offers a mixture of action and stealth, with the chance to take down enemies instantly if they don’t see you. You’ll almost always be outgunned, but you’re given clues as to which strategy to take by the changing music.

Bond's aresenal has been slimmed down in the new films, so it makes sense that there aren’t many gadgets in the game. There is an online multiplayer mode that pays homage to past classic Bond games such as GoldenEye 007. Which should hopefully make Bond’s video game comeback as successful as his cinematic return.

Key Features
  • You only live twice: Recreate the stories of both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace in one game, including deleted scenes and new side missions.
  • Duty calls: The game uses the same graphics technology as Call of Duty 4, including bullets that realistically pass through wood and other materials.
  • You know his name: The game features not only the voice and likeness of Daniel Craig, but also Judi Dench as M, Mathieu Amalric as villain Dominic Greene, and Olga Kruylenko as Camille.
  • Shaken not stirred: A mix of first- and third-person viewpoints allows for both shooter action and tense stealth-based exploration.
  • Licence to kill: Battle friends in the online mode in a wide range of game types.
About the Developer: Treyarch
One of publisher Activision’s biggest internal studios, Treyarch have worked on many of the company’s best known titles, from the Spider-Man movie tie-ins and spin-offs to several of the Call of Duty sequels and, of course, the new James Bond game, Quantum of Solace.

1.0 out of 5 stars Well I shot through that in a matter of hours, 3 Nov 2008
Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
Well folks, welcome to the usual story - a poor game made from a fairly average movie in comparison to the previous Bond outing. What could have been a fantastic game was given to Treyarch, who amongst other things has made the wonderful 'Call of Duty: Big Red One' which everyone knows was perfect...

Or not.

Linear level design, the same enemy types area in, area out and so much explosive junk to do your job of aiming for you that it's untrue. The voice-acting despite having an absolutely brilliant cast (the majority of the characters from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace) is agonising at times - Daniel Craig sounds like he's had a personality bypass for most of it! Emotion please!

However, the weapon sound effects are fairly satisfying, particularly the trademark Walther and some of the areas (i.e. Venice and... umm... Venice) are fairly attractive. Sadly the Call of Duty 4 engine that can look stunning was not used to its fullest potential for this project; most of the character graphics are fairly detailed but many outdoor areas look blocky and unfinished.

Rent it, borrow it from a friend... but it's not worth it until it's in a bargain bin or reduced considerably. Great for die-hard fans (pun actually intended if you want to turn the usually refined James Bond into John McClane) but no-one else need apply.

1.0 out of 5 stars This game is total rubbish, 7 Nov 2008
By G. Brown "Gareth" (Swindon, UK) - See all my reviews

Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
If you have a very old graphics card/pc and don't play games much this might be ok.

If you don't leave it alone to fester

The graphics on a top range card look like an Xbox game (the original not the 360). The textures are woeful, everything looks flat and it looks more like it used the Call of Duty 1 engine than the stunning Call of Duty 4 one.

It gets worse, the multi-player ditches all the Cal of Duty 4 options and uses "Windows Live". This means:
* You can't choose a server (you pick a game and Live chooses one for you)
* It is unlikely there will ever be a dedicated server
* You can't even choose what map you want to play on
some of these options might be available if you "purchase" a Live gold account, but this again is unacceptable for a PC game

If I can't get my money back I'm likely to just burn my copy
Please please please do not buy this game ever

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, LOCKED AT 30 FPS, 9 Dec 2008
By D. Harper "Masterharps" (Liberty City) - See all my reviews

Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
Any game with a Frame rate limiter should be banned, I cant play a game at 30 fps its like watching a slide show. If I had known that i would never have brought it. Such a waste of the COD 4 engine. This game seems to be unsurported as not evan a really needed patch has come out for it. It seems that Treyarch have put all their efforts into COD5. Rubbish game.
