Synopsis
Devoted SIMPSONS fans need wait no further for Series 11 of the animated series, presented here in its entirety. In its landmark eleventh series, the show showed no signs of slowing down. The Simpsons--ineffectual (but lovable) patriarch Homer, voice-of-reason mother Marge, rebellious son Bart, brilliant daughter Lisa, and quiet baby Maggie--live in the town of Springfield, surrounded by both the regular cast of characters and the stellar guest stars fans have come to expect. Among the celebrity voices donated to this season are Mel Gibson, Lucy Lawless, Gary Coleman, Tim Robbins, Don Cheadle, Britney Spears, Kid Rock, and Willie Nelson. Meanwhile, Homer bowls a perfect game, gets challenged to a pistol duel, starts a motorcycle gang, and becomes a food critic while Bart is put on behaviour-correcting medication and gets a look into his future, Lisa takes tap dancing lessons, Marge thinks the new house guest wants to kill her, and Moe lands a soap opera gig after getting plastic surgery. In this series' 'Treehouse of Horror' episode, Homer accidentally kills Ned Flanders, Bart and Lisa gain superpowers and save Lucy Lawless, and Homer inadvertently causes a Y2K apocalypse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Season! Awful Packaging, 6 Oct 2008
Another Great Season for The Simpsons. Have been looking forward to this coming out for some time. Can;t believe its taken so long.
I would have given this a higher rating if it wasnt for the packaging. Unlike the other Limited Edition Simpsons boxset (i.e. Homer Head boxset etc) this comes slightly smaller where the discs are stuffed into cardboard sleeves which can be quite hard to get out, and also have to touch the readable side of the disc with your fingers leaving grubby marks.
Also the packaging is very confusing and you are lucky to find the right disc you are looking for, first time.
As long as you aren't fussy about the packaging then this is a must buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Trouble in paradise...for two reasons!, 16 Aug 2008
By Mr. Simon A. Macklin (Northampton, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This season, finally getting released after a year without a new box set and only the disappointing movie and increasingly unfunny episodes to sustain us, is very interesting. Along with seasons 9 and 10, 11 contains many episodes that are very funny, and a few that aren`t. All the early seasons, the classic, golden age of Simpsons seasons, have storylines and moments that are truly unforgettable, and indeed, are now embedded as part of popular culture...they were devastatingly funny too. These later seasons are funny, but for some reason they don`t really stick in the mind. I know it`s a tragic waste of memory, but I can retell most of the first 100 episodes damn near word for word. These later seasons just don`t stick in the brain. I still love them just not for the same reasons. It`s more out of feelings of nostalgia and remembrance at how happy one used to be watching them, and I now feel I shouldn`t let Homer et al. down by turning my back on them when they need me...

I`m not going to run through each episode, as some don`t deserve the effort, but there are some delights. I like "Little Big Mom", and "Missionary: Impossible". "The Mansion Family", which ends in disappointment (a theme of this season) does have one of my favourite ever Simpsons moments - when Mr Burns leaves for his health check, Monty is pondering who to leave in charge of his house.

Monty: "Who`s that fellow that always screws up and causes havoc?"
Smithers: "Homer Simpson?"
Monty: "Yes, that`s the fellow. I reckon he`s due a good performance".

If you don`t enjoy that scene, you have laugh-resistant DNA. Also, Moe starring as the lead of an episode (Pygmoelian) is great news. The idea of the season finale, a behind-the-scenes style expose is a great idea (even if it doesn`t quite work).

You will find yourself ten minutes in though sometimes, and nothing funny has happened. Lazy comic ideas led to such comedy misfires as "Kill The Alligator and Run" and even worse, "Bart To The Future". I don`t know why Maud had to die either!

So, still funny, but not classics. Better than any other animated comedy in my opinion, and worth watching - you will laugh often, but these episodes are a bit like the name of Homer`s Barbershop Quartet, "The B-Sharps" - funny at first, but less so the more you know them...

And as for the packaging!!! If every reviewer mentions it, and they do, there must be truth in it. You can`t possibly have any idea which disc you are getting as Fox have designed something that despite being just cardboard and glue is so sphinx-like in its inscrutability you will be enraged and bewildered within minutes. Your chances of watching the discs more than once - you will have scratched the important side by simply removing them - are slender. Keep those nails filed if you want to keep them in good order. True madness.
