Romancing the stone features a very good blu ray transfer. Colours are bright and detail is strong, sound quality is also good. My only complaint is that there are rather a lot of soft shots throughout the movie that are very noticeable on the blu ray transfer.
Overall, this is a big step up from the dvd version and it should please fans of the movie.

As the story starts we are treated to a realistic western and look back at the cover to be sure we have the correct DVD. Yep it is the correct one.

A romance novelist, Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner of "Body Heat" 1981 fame) wants to fall in love with the type of hero she created in her novels. Fat chance she has hanging around her New York City apartment.

Perchance her sister Elaine (Mary Ellen Trainor), looking for the other body parts of Elaine's dismembered husband, is kidnapped and ransomed by ruthless people, (Danny DeVito and Zack Norman.)
This just happens to be in Columbia. It seems that there are other interested parties that are down right vicious.

Will Joan Wilder find the type of romance she writes about or just a snot?

Prepare for a great adventure.

The movie was filmed in Mexico. I have not been to Columbia but I have seen several of the places in Mexico. It does not diminish the film what so ever.

I saw this film several times previous to the Blu-ray packaging and I really can not say if the resolution or jut big screen TV makes a difference. However looking at the extra footage make me feel that they did a good job of restoration.

The Blu-ray edition has several extras.
Danny explains why he likes to use the word "maricon!"
The deleted scenes are really alternate scenes.

If you like juggle adventures with home bound people do not miss "Call Me Bwana" (1963) with Bob Hope

I'm old enough to remember seeing both "Romancing The Stone" (1984) and it's tasty follow up "Jewel Of The Nile" (1985) in the cinema (to wildly appreciative audiences) and thinking what a huge breath of fresh air both films were. Michael Douglas and the sexy Kathleen Turner hamming it up in Columbian jungles like characters out of her romance novels (exuding rare chemistry and genuine star quality) while Danny DeVito’s sleazoid character Ralph gets the crumpled suits and the drug-dealer’s share of the great one-liners.

But British fans of both films should note that the 'US' 20th Century Fox BLU RAYS of each are REGION A LOCKED - so they will not play on our machines unless they're chipped to be 'all regions' (which few are).

Stick with the now released UK versions – and wait until they hit the ‘2 for £10’ lists. They look better than the DVDs I’ve had all these years and both movies are as memory-refreshing as stumbling on a Grateful Dead jacket in the pilot’s seat of a crashed plane…

This film has been a family favourite for years. Without actually spoiling the plot I will say that its a adventure rom com set in Columbia with gorgeous scenery and fantastic characters. A favourite among kids and adults.
If you liked Indiana Jones or Sahara you will love this.

Ms. Turner plays romance author Joan Wilder, who in order to ransom her sister Elaine, flies to Colombia to deliver a map sent to her by her late brother-in-law. Joan soon gets involved in a bizarre situation better than anything she's ever written. She gets on the wrong bus and soon meets Jack (Michael Douglas), an adventurer who lives by his wits. He agrees to get her out of the jungle for $375 in travellers cheques, as long as they're American Express. Because Joan has the map, several factions are after her, including Ralph (Danny DeVito) and lots more scary people. Jack talks Joan into going after the treasure themselves to give her more of a bargaining chip.

This is a very fun film, with lively performances by Douglas, Turner, DeVito and the rest of the cast. Many funny and suspenseful moments, including Joan being recognized and feted by a Colombian drug dealer, a Tarzan-like swing across a river, and problems with alligators. Not to mention a little romance along the way for Joan and Jack.

Great film. Great hero in Douglas and great legs from Turner. Even pint sized 'taxi' tv star Devito plays a quality part. If you want a fun filled film for family then this Gem ticks all the right boxes! Bring out on Blu Ray.

Hi all
I teach Action and Advernture as a topic in GCSE media studies and this film has the lot.
I remember loving this movie as a kid and it is still great now. while cheesy and the romance wooden and unbelievable in places, the action is great, and its really refreshing to see stunt men perform rather than crud CGI or green screen. I was a little shocked by the language as I dont remember this as a kid, but its no big deal. It is a slow start also but it quickly picks up pace as soon as she leaves NYC.
"Look at those snappers will ya" lol.
Two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Buy a copy and be whisked back to the glory of the 80's!
Oh- and dont buy the sequal- Jewel of the Nile- it's totally pants!
