Finally we get to see a werewolf film that isnt composed mainly of stupid victims and cruddy CGI. A biker gang of werewolves are tracking down a 12 year old boy kept by non-bloodthirsty werewolves in a small town. If the boy reaches his 13th birthday a prophecy will be fulfilled. As well as being an awesome looking film with some frightfully new werewolf designs and action scenes the underline plot is actually what gives this story more heart. My only issue with this film is that the marketing and promotion of Skinwalkers was very poor. This film now sits on the shelf with a few other gems that should have gotten top billing, like Ginger Snaps and The Forsaken.

This one had a troubled production history and the word was - It's awful. Not at all true since this is a competenly made and scripted werewolf flick which is never as original as it thinks it is, and is far tamer than it needed to be. That said it has a few stand out scenes and a very capable b-list kind of cast. Taken as straight ot dvd horror with little expectation you would be in for a pleasant surprise, demand something different and a top-notch script and you'll be let down. I read somewhere that the studio wanted to try and keep the rating down, that's a shame, because had they made it slightly more adult, they would have targeted a more specific audience and had a more satisfying film on completion.
Awesome front cover art.

SKINWALKERS is an early After Dark Films release.

Basic premise has a crowd of bad ass biker werewolves showing up in small town America, where some good wholesome werewolves are protecting an unsuspecting golden child and his mother.

Think UNDERWORLD without the vamps and on a smaller budget and you're pretty much on the money.

Skinwalkers is not the best scripted film in the world but where it stumbles a little with characterisation, there's plenty of kickass set piece action to pick up the pace. This is a TV movie with ideas above its station. It has a lot of heart and balls and isn't afraid to punch above its weight. And in this case, that's a good thing.

A solid recommend.

I wasn't expecting a lot from this having bought it purely because of the cover and because it was cheap.
But I liked it because it wasn't a run of the mill werewolf move.
I liked the design of the harness that restrained the 'good' skin walkers.
I liked the cast and the story I even liked the ending.
No it's not the greatest werewolf film ever made but it made a satisfactory evenings entertainment.
Plus this was made by Stan Winston studios, Stan Winston you know the designer of the terminator and the Preditor

remember "american werewolf in london"?, the first change into a werewolf was amazing. This film kills that in a very good way. very intertaining.
A 12 year old boy and his mother become the targets of two warring werewolf packs, each with different intentions and motives.
Find out why this 12 year old boy is so important. Good twist at the end.

I would have to agree with most of the other reviewers on this movie. It was good but, not great. I enjoyed the storyline and the cover art looks great. It follows a 13 year old who is unaware he is the key to breaking the 'curse' of the skinwalkers. Only, if he survives. A group of skinwalkers who do not want rid of the curse go on a hunting spree to find him.

The storyline was good but the special effects were not that great. The werewolves were unfortunately a bit...rubbish. Although, the effects pre-werewolf were pritty good!

Its a hard one to review, because there were so many bad and good points to the film. If you've been missing the werewolves on screen you'll probably love this movie, but if you are more of a critic you will concentrate on the flaws.

Skinwalkers tells the story of a young boy who's been living his life for 13 years... with absolutely no idea that he is the one thing that determines the whole future of the werewolf species. So, when he's located by a small-but-dangerous group of 'baddies', he and his mum have no choice but to go on-the-run and figure out a way to fight back.

Sounds fun, doesn't it?

It's not just the corny script and the cheesy acting; unfortunately, Skinwalkers' lack of budget is pain-stakingly obvious. This isn't normally a bad thing, (i.e. The Blair Witch Project, Saw etc) but it's like director James Isaac is trying to make some kind of werewolf epic with a budget of about 50p.

Don't get me wrong- this isn't a particularly 'bad' film on the whole, but sadly, it fails to bring anything remotely new or different to the werewolf genre. Therefore, whilst watching Skinwalkers, be sure to prepare yourself for a really bad case of Déjà Vu.

The more subtle werewolf effects were good, but when it comes to the big fight scenes, you'll probably be thinking to yourself: 'Is that the cheap werewolf costume they were selling in Tesco's last Halloween?'

I'm not going to spend ages ranting on- Skinwalkers does have its good points. It stars the brilliant Rhona Mitra of Shooter and Doomsday, and it does have a few good scenes (watch out for the granny with a shotgun!) Ultimately though, the whole thing just needs more 'umph!'

It'll probably be OK for desperate werewolf fans, as there aren't that many werewolf flicks these days; but generally, there are better choices around at the moment, so if I were you, I'd give Skinwalkers a miss -or at least rent it first.
