Product Description

CD Description

Like many rock songwriters and musicians of his era and genre, Jackson Browne's latest (12th) LP, 'Time The Conqueror',tackles head-on the pertinent political issues of the day. The record is, in essence, a critique of the Bush Administration, with songs such as 'Where Were You?' and 'The Drums OfWar' standing out as particularly potent indictments. Though unsubtle, these sentiments are authentically carried off by Browne, whose time in the industry has left him with the honed musicianship and clarity of expression that only comes with experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare talent, still on top form, 13 Nov 2008

I've been listening to Jackson Browne since the sixties (yes, I'm really old), and first encountered him with blonde chanteuse Nico. Since then, I've seen him in concert many times, and enjoyed his music constantly, so you could say I'm an admirer. I still like to think I have critical faculties, and I was a bit concerned when I read early reviews of this album. However, now having bought it and played it a few times, I needn't have worried. No-one can capture the mood of a time like Jackson Browne. He has a conscience, a soaring voice, and even with sparse arrangements, a rare power in his song writing. I hope we don't have to wait another six years for his next studio album. This is just great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very, Very Good JB, 5 Nov 2008
When i read a lot of average reviews for this album, I hesitated buying it.
Two weeks after the release date i bought it!!
TIME THE CONQUEROR has a superbly sparse production, has 10 excellent songs and as you'd expect, JB's Singing is still as fresh and youthful as ever.
So these people that have called these 10 new songs average or worst, have not given this album a good listen too, 'cos it is a grower.
The only negative thing i'd say about this CD is "Get rid of the goatee Jackson"

4.0 out of 5 stars This will find its place, 1 Oct 2008

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
One of the problems of a long, hugely impressive, career in music is that of expectation; even more so if it is six years since your last album of original songs. Such situations often result in one of two consequences; either the new album is hailed as 'the best yet' before it has had time to be fully appreciated within the whole catalogue of the artist, or it is a disappointment failing to match earlier, greater work. There have been quite a few reviews of this album on the negative , 'he's past it' side. I don't concur with that. Indeed the only song that really disappoints is 'Going Down to Cuba', whilst others stand out, in particular the title track, 'Off of Wonderland', 'Drums of war', Live Nude Cabaret' and the final song 'Far From the arms of Hunger'; this latter has been described elsewhere as a 'plodding protest song' when, in my view, it is a song of beauty, pining for a time in which co-operation between us all might result in a world that can transcend its current problems set to a beautiful tune and production, a most suitable and lovely way to end the album. Far from losing his touch, I think Jackson Browne has written an album for our times and I can't wait to hear some of these songs live in April.
