Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Aspire One is a brand new product and, despite its size, it is not just another notebook: it is a stylish all-new digital device designed to deliver continuous access to the internet no matter where you are.

Let's get connected

Small and smart, the Aspire One takes you wherever you want to be and keeps you connected when you get there. The Aspire One comes with 802.11b/g WiFi built-in as standard for easy access to available wireless network. The result is always the same: you are online in an instant and can stay there as long as you want.
In addition, Acer Signal Up technology ensures maximum quality and stability to the wireless signal.

Let's get organized

The Aspire One is great for getting things done: whether you are checking your mail, managing your online bank account or chatting with friends, the Aspire One offers a simple, intuitive Linux or Windows XP® Home interface that clearly organizes everything you need to surf, work or simply have fun. The Linux pre-installed software is separated by functions and presented in 4 distinct areas on the screen – Connect, Works, Fun and Files – that is so simple it’s impossible to get confused: the easier it is to get things done, the simpler it is to enjoy life.

Ergonomics and reduced dimensions do not mean the view isn’t spectacular: the Aspire One has an 8.9” CrystalBrite LED backlit display with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels. Integrated in the top of the screen is the unique Acer CrystalEye webcam for live video streaming, video chats and conferences.

Choose your Style

The Aspire One uses colour to combine connectivity with inimitable style. Available in sapphire blue and seashell white – the Aspire One gives an individual and quite distinctive look and feel that matches the style and personality of its lucky owner.

Bits & bytes for data freedom

The Aspire One is equipped with Intel® Atom™ processor, Linpus™ Linux® Lite or Windows XP® Home, and comes with 512MB or 1GB of RAM memory installed.
There are two alternatives for data storage: a NAND flash module of 8GB or a 120GB internal HDD. In addition the Aspire One reads 5 different types of memory card – Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, xD-Picture Card – for absolute data freedom.
To increase storage capacity, the Aspire One features the unique Smart File Manager, a simple solution that instantly and seamlessly merges extra storage from any SD card inserted in the 2nd SD card slot into the memory available to the user.
Expanding your available storage has never been so easy.

Simple, Sophisticated Software
Acer has worked hard on improving the user experience by designing a friendly, easy-to-use and comprehensive interface that simplifies interaction between users and the Aspire One by taking a more natural approach to screen layout and functionality.
The Linpus™ Linux® Lite version is the result, guiding and accompanying even novice users through the Internet in an intuitive, “virus-safe” and super-responsive Linux environment.
The Aspire One features the One Mail software suite that lets you manage up to six of your email accounts with a single application interface, including your office accounts. A small icon to the right of the message quickly and clearly shows the appropriate mail account. Nothing could be simpler to replace push e-mail services without using a corporate server.
The Aspire One uses Messenger for Instant Messaging, an application that allows users to simultaneously access Skype, Microsoft Messenger and various other instant messaging services. The software can be used with the integrated video camera for instant video-chats and video conferences.
The Aspire One series comes preinstalled with Linpus™ Linux® Lite version or Windows XP® Home. Furthermore, additional software such as OpenOffice 2.3, One Mail, Messenger, Acer eRecovery Management, Acer Launch Manager, Adobe® Reader®, McAfee® Internet Security Suite Trial Version, Microsoft® Office Trial 2007 are also installed.
The Aspire One comes with a 1-year carry in warranty which can be extended to 2 years with Acer Advantage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Netbook, 11 Dec 2008
By Mr. R. van Tol - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having lugged laptop bricks on and off planes and trains, my shoulder cried out for something that would be portable in a non-ironic, non-muscular straining sense.

I bought the Linux version of the Acer Aspire intially, and whilst a brilliant inexpensive machine, the operating system didn't have driver for the built-in microphone, so my aim of recording meetings with it and the built in webcam were impossible. But I returned it to Amazon with no fuss, and upgraded to this Windows XP version.

It is so light and highly connectable. I use it in meetings, on business trips, to run presentations, work in free wifi cafes, and sit in my reclining chair catching up with blogs.

I use OpenOffice, Firefox and FreeMind map minding, all open source software. Whilst I enjoyed the challenge of Linux, it easier to use XP if you have any experience of it.

My only problem is that it is so cool and dinky, especially in the extra red leather case I bought for it, my partner likes to take it when she goes to see clients, and catch-up in cafes. So the only conflicts I've had are whether it is mine, hers, or ours.

It is very liberating to have something you can pop into your rucksack and forget about, till you need a fully featured computer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compact Notebook, 27 Dec 2008
By B. Maxwell - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Read some of the reviews here and to be honest was somewhat worried (bought this here before the reviews appeared) although must say have had no Problems with it thus far, its like a large calculator its that small with good screen definition.

Using it to watch sky Plus with headphones around the house and read emails means we aren't fighting with the kids for PC access. doesn't have a disc drive but an external drive could be purchased if you require it, with 120gb of its own memory it should be enough for most people.

Registered it with Acer and keeping fingers crossed I don't hvae the problems some others are reporting

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a pleasant experience, 9 Dec 2008
By O. A. Olukoya "lexkid" (united kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this netbook about a month ago and quickly fell in love with the sleek design and colour but what it lacked in cost was soon compensated for in performance.Within three days it started freezing up soon after start up,the keys would not respond, you could move the mouse but dont expect it to respond to any imput.the only solution was to turn off the system and start all over again.imagine the annoyance when you are about to place a last minute bid on ebay. Thinking it was a one off incident i returned it, got a refund and immediately placed an order for another one.Now i'm faced with the same problem again just after two days of use.I'm not going to go through the pain of returning this one, i'll just save up and buy a better product.Toshiba, dell etc are not costlier for no reason.performance i'll score this netbook 2/10.
