5.0 out of 5 stars Wild bluegrass, blues for the 21st Century, 7 Aug 2008
Not only are the Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir a brilliant live band, their new album is a swirl of blues rhythms,mashed-up with country and punk. The vocals are a bit Tom Waits-y, and that's meant in a good way. From crawling, clanking Son House numbers to whirling dervish roots workouts, if you like your music raw and exciting these are the boys for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Believe!, 26 April 2009
By Leonardo27 (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Strange one this...they're not a choir, the music isn't gospel and I have no idea whether they're agnostics or have ever been anywhere near a mountain, but it hardly matters when the music is this good.

Stripped down, raw, lo-fi country blues full of jagged edges and swathed in junkyard percussion. Imagine Tom Waits stumbling into a jam session between the North Mississippi Allstars, John Hiatt and the Ozark Mountain Daredevils and you begin to get some idea.

Check out in particular "Rainstorms In My Knees" "Empire State Express" and "The Boig".

Rousing stuff.
