Cybill Shepherd stars as Cybill Sheridan, a woman who has it all, two spiteful daughters (Dedee Pfeiffer and Alicia Witt), two clingy ex-husbands (Alan Rosenberg and Tom Wopat), an outrageous best friend (Christine Baranski), an unstable future and a house on an eroding LA hillside. But with humour and determination, Cybill braves each new challenge that comes her way, while having the time of her life discovering that life after forty is anything but downhill. Synopsis

Cybill Shepherd stars in this witty sitcom as a twice-divorced, 40-something actress, scouring the dregs of Hollywood for work and trying to get her life back on the tracks. When not fending off attacks from her sarcastic daughter Zoe (Alicia Witt), Cybill gets into plenty of LA-styled misadventures with her bitter friend and fellow divorcee Maryann (Christine Baranski, who won an Emmy for her work).

Great show that ended too soon!
Cybill Shepard at her best after Moonlighting with Bruce Willis.
The series finale cliffhanger was the best.
CYBILL SHEPARD'S BEST COMEDY SITCOM EVER!!!

A string of these shows came out around the same time... famous person has a sitcom based loosely on their own life.
Cybill is the best of the lot, forget Reba, Bette (which has similar themes), Cybill is funny and what a real sitcom should be.
MaryAnne (Christine Baranski) steals the show as a 'AbFab Patsyish' character and I wish it had gone longer than 4 seasons.

During the 1990s in the UK Channel 4 screened many US sitcoms Roseanne, Ellen, Friends, Frasier and of course Cybil which vanished from C4 without explanation even though it had continued in the US.

The show focuses on Cybil Sheridan(played by Cybil Shepherd) who is an out of work and ageing actress who along with her best friend Marianne love to live on the wild side often with embarassing or disastrous consequences.

The show has aged very well since it was first broadcast and it is a shame that it seems to be on the whole forgot by most people. With a longer run this could have become one of the great sitcoms and while it still is "great" it ended at least 3 series before it's time.

It stands out next to alot of TV shows of the same genre and can easily be compared (albeit slightly) to UK sitcom Absolutely Fabulous.

Fans of Roseanne, Absolutely Fabulous, Ellen, Frasier or just great comedy will love this show.
