A wonderful way to remember an unforgettable evening . . ., 8 Jul 2008
I'm a longtime Zombies fan who flew in from to New York to see this very concert that was recorded. It was a rare opportunity to hear a recreation of one of the greatest albums of all time, never mind that it was 40 years later. The concert exceeded all expectations in that not only was O & O brilliantly recreated, but the music that came out of their instruments, and the vocals that came out from the band members has only improved over time. Colin was always a great singer, and time as only enhanced his voice. Rod's voice is as good as ever and his keyboard mastery let's you know he is still the master of his domain, and Chris, he was something else. I haven't heard Chis's voice in years, and though it cracks in a few places, his singing just seems to have more conviction to it. "The Butcher's Tale" simply blew me away. Hugh's drumming hasn't skipped a beat, and the touring band, which has sounded wonderful since the I first heard them play together at BB King's in 2002, just keeps getting better. Keith Airey is as incredible guitarist (Keith, if you're reading this - I'm the chap from NY who chatted with you that evening), and the Rodford father and son team also deliver very nicely. Kudos to the sound engineers for doing a marvelous job at truly capturing the sound and the feel of this historical event. Please do give this CD a listen too, and tell your friends!

Excellent registration of splendid concert, 3 Jul 2008
If you love the Odessey & Oracle album (isn't it charming, the way all fans faithfully repeat the spelling error in the title?), you'll be thrilled by this concert registration. All surviving ex-members were there on stage, and together with master guitar player Keith Airey, who replaced the sadly deceased Paul Atkinson, they were able to reproduce both the sound and the atmosphere of the original. Of course the Zombies touring band, including Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone, do a fine job playing Zombies originals, along with post-Zombies material, but nothing beats the three part harmonies produced by Colin, Rod and Chris White, and no one but Chris White can do his impressive Butcher's Tale.
The band were augmented with Darian Sahanaja on keyboards (Rod Argent may be a wizard keyboard player himself but even he can't play overdubs simultaneously..) and with background vocals by Jim Rodford, his son Steve (both in the touring band) and Mrs. White. Last but not least, Hugh Grundy on drums after 40 years still knew exactly what tricks he performed in each album track.
Listen to one of the outstanding tracks on the album, Hung Up On A Dream, and you'll feel the shivers down your spine. That track alone is almost worth buying the album for.
The second disc gives a very good impression of the Zombie touring band's high quality, with the added attraction of a few numbers where Colin Blunstone is accompanied by a string quartet. More shivers there........

An Odessey, an Oracle and So Much More. , 20 Aug 2008
I bought this album after seeing The Zombies live in Seattle. It was a great way to remember the evening in which I was completely blown away.
The faithful recreation (live) of the masterpiece "Odessy and Oracle" is alone worth the price of purchase. It is great to hear an even better (if I may say so) version than the original. How can one go wrong there? You can't, enough said. That disc also closes with The Zombies biggest hits, "Time of The Seaason", "She's Not There" and "Tell Her No".
Then we get to the second disc, which is just heavenly. It opens with the song they usually open with live, "I Love You". This version is better than the original. The song that Colin scored a hit with in 1981, the cover of "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" is done even better with Rod than the one I remember with Dave Stewart (no offence to Dave here, just that what Rod and Colin create is pure magic).
Then it is 3 of the songs that Colin recorded on his wonderful solo recording "One Year". It is such a pleasure to hear these songs recreated live with a string section just the way they were recorded, only better because Colin's voice is stunning now. Then when you are left breathless by these, the album picks up with the Argent songs "Rock n Roll Rag" and their steller hit "Hold Your Head Up", a song that has come to hold an especial meaning for me now.
The pure joy of this 40th anniversary concert recording, is how much it covers, and how mush history is packed in here. Rod and Colin have proven that they are the best at what they do. One song I do wish were on here, but that is really not such a big deal, is "God Gave Rock N Roll To You".
See, if God gave Rock and Roll to us, then he did the right thing by giving us these talented men to play it for us.
And how cool is that? Again, enough said.
