Product Description

Ethan Hawke stars in this true story about a 1972 plane crash in the Andes. The survivors of the accident, who soon learned through the radio that the rescue mission had been abandoned, faced an almost impossible task in finding their way back to civilisation. However, the will to survive was strong, and when the food and drink ran out, the team had to resort to cannibalism in order to stay alive.

Tenshu (Hideo Sakaki) killed the 6 rapists of his girlfriend. He survives the electric chair and gets to choose between death and what is behind door number one. He finds himself in a modernistic prison as part of an experiment. He is paired with a slightly deranged serial killer necrophiliac who also has a long list of misdemeanors. The goal of the experiment is to have one of the guys kill the other for a reason that is later exposed at about the same time as that alien thing called the "Isomer."

The film is way too long. There are flashbacks to make the rape/murder more complex. The control room drama was bizarre and added needlessly to the length of the film, whose plot wasn't that overpowering considering the manner in which it was presented. Interesting concept made boring.

1 f-bomb in English subscripts. No sex or nudity.

For sure. It was a bit like The Cube at first, you wondered if they were going to get injected with needles, or microwaved. I found the description a bit misleading; I was under the impression that the guards were surprised that anyone could survive the chair, but that didn't seem to be the case.
The film is a virtually a 'one-set wonder' with most of the story taking place in just two large rooms. It is very dark throughout, so a of the 'film noir' genre (one where we don't see any daylight). This film is in Japanese, with English subtitles, which didn't bother me and I suppose that if you are learning Japanese, it could be good practice ;-)
The ending is a bit predictable and the acting is, well, Japanese, so a bit more drama than we are used to. The storyline is kept edgy enough so you want to see what happens next and the camera work is good. Nice to be able to give a positive review for a change. It won't suit everyone, but all in all, one of Amazon's better B movie offerings.

Starts well but soon becomes boring and melodramatic. I was even checking my watch half way through and that's never a good sign of riveting entertainment.

I do like an asian film and of course this did not disapoint me at all. If you like a bit of action thriller you will like this film.:)
