Synopsis

A comedy series about a group of 'banged-up' petty crooks and the family and friends who visit them each week in their natural environment, a low-security prison. Set almost entirely in the prison visiting room, the comic tension flows from a three-way dynamic between the prisoners, their visitors and the undervalued prison officers. Each episode focuses on the life of a different prisoner and, like that other British prison comedy Porridge, the depressing setting doesn't stop the comedy from being warm, slightly ridiculous and surprisingly accessible.

I caught this last year (2007) on BBC Three and quickly fell in love with it, in the vein of 'The Smoking Room' the drab surroundings and seemingly dull setup actaully makes for much comic value. It's single camera setup, so no audience laughter, it's not necessary each of you will find different moments you find funny and with such a vast array of characters, at least 12, it never feels boring or stagnated, by the way each episode features all the characters evenly, there is no focus on one character above the other. Also watch out for Beatrice Kelly (Nana) she steals every scene she's in. Top stuff.

I just finished watching the repeats of this on BBC1 and had to have this dvd. This is the freshest comedy i have seen in years. All the characters are well developed and the single camera work makes for great viewing as it flits between different scenarios. This show deserves awards aplenty.I hope that there is a second series soon. I wouldn't care if this dvd doesn't have extras, it's the show that matters. Go on treat yourself it's well worth a visit.

This is becoming a tired format. the lines are so obvious and not that funny. Also the acting and delivery is very staged and totally studio stuff cashing in on the success of bendiorm, royle family etc etc
