5.0 out of 5 stars A Welcome Return, 27 Jan 2009
By Mad Matt (Berkshire, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
The only reason I can think of to explain why someone would write a totally negative review of Sam & Max for the Wii is if you had no idea what kind of game you were buying in the first place. Basically, if you are after action, you don't buy a point and click graphic adventure game. To complain about its sedate nature is like criticising an apple for not being an orange.

For those of you who do not remember the heyday of the genre, a graphic adventure is a thoughtful, story-driven game, usually involving a lot of detective work and logic puzzles, and most importantly (if it's a good example of the form) cherishably quotable dialogue.

The masters of this were LucasArts, and one of their indisputable gems was Sam & Max Hit The Road. This is the long overdue return of Steve Purcell's much-loved characters in videogame form, which originally appeared as downloadable content for the PC - hence the episodic nature of this 'season' collection.

Those of us who loved the genre will have mourned its decline since the '90s golden era, but the arrival of the Wii is a reason to celebrate. Its control system makes it ideally suited to this type of game, and if Season One isn't without its flaws (the episodic structure - and perhaps budgetary limitations - leads to a lot more repetition of environments than you might like), in conjunction with Zack & Wiki (and the forthcoming Season Two) this is a very encouraging new dawn for a much-missed genre.

If enough people buy this, perhaps even the inscrutable LucasArts might see fit to repurpose their classics for Nintendo's little gem...

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun and zany game., 4 Jan 2009
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
If you ever played the original "Sam & Max Hit the Road" game, then i'm sure you will love "Season 1". The game has the same zany humour as the previous games, but with an updated look.

Each of the six episodes takes you to new places, with new characters and new puzzles to solve.

I really believe this is for anyone who is a fan of the old style 'point and click' adventure games or anyway who wants to try something a bit different on the Wii.

Go on, give it a go. Its Fun and original!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia made me buy this game!, 16 Jan 2009
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
First of I would like to say I'm a huge fan of the Lucas arts era of point and click and the original game Sam & Max hit the road. Which is why I was hyped up about getting another changes to jump into their world.

That said I'm sad to say it but I think this dog (and rabbit) has had its day. The charm and witty dialogue of hit the road are unfortunately lost in Season 1. I Found my self skipping though endless dialogue that just didn't make me laugh. I feel the main point of the sam and max games should be the clever narrative and amusing tasks, which were not as well thought out as its predecessor. I'm also not sure about the 3D style. I think the 2d comic strip approach was a far more unique look.

To sum up I think they have striped the essence out of Sam and Max that made the original such a good game. Nostalgia is all that's keeping this game selling.

I would recommend Zack and Wicky... Better yet get your hands on an old 486pc and boot up Hit the Road and relive the good times!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Game
I found this game very dull, Sam & Max are 2 boring police who go round talking to other characters and there's no action
