5.0 out of 5 stars The best indie-dance-funk-electro-pop album of the year , 11 Jul 2008
They Came From The Stars I Saw Them have been around for a while but it seems that the world is finally catching up with them.

If Does It Offend You Yeah, CSS and the Klaxons are indie-dance then this band is something better. Indie-funk. They supported Metronomy recently at an XFM Xposure gig snd frankly blew them off the stage.

Mental lyrics, spacey keyboard and computer sounds, twittering, farting sax and clarinet and a rhythm section straight outta George Clinton's Parliament circa 1973.

"The Hot Inc" and "Its Time" are danceable as hell but still ballsy enough to be called "rock". Then there's the daft singalong anthems like "Moon Song" and "Rabbit / Seal / Monkey". "Lionel's Tears" is a tribute to the great Lionel Ritchie, but also so much more lyrically and musically, which includes a great line about James Blunt.

Impossible to categorise but Amazon demands tags so - you might like this if you like any of the following :

MGMT
Seventies funk
Arcade Fire
CSS
I'm from Barcelona

Buy this. You'll love it. It will be your soundtrack to the summer, even if it rains.

5.0 out of 5 stars James Blunt, what a horrible concept, 28 Sep 2009
Mr T M Lazarus has got it all right with his review, so I just want to add what a pleasant surprise it was to stumble across this apparently and inexplicably obscure band. I recommend a look at their video, "It's always boomtime" to give you a general idea - I originally found this by searching for Kevin Rowland videos, and he makes a great cameo appearance at the end of the vid. That song is not on this album, instead it is on their almost impossible to source debut (try eBay for that). But this album did not disappoint.

There's a lot going on with this music, and it challenges and unpeels your mind a little. It's also faintly mesmeric, engaging in a variety of ways, and I would thoroughly recommend it.

I'm also going to say that, as far as muscial comparisons go, I am reminded of The Fall - albeit, a funkier, more whimsical version, but nonetheless out there somewhere in that region of the poposphere that rewards long distance, even interstellar travel.
