Synopsis

Combine the juvenile smut of Superbad with the cringing embarrassment of Peep Show, against the 'stylish' backdrop of Grange Hill, and what do you get? E4's hilarious comedy The Inbetweeners. A super sharp, one-liner packed celebration of the highs and lows of being a teenager. Perfectly capturing the relentless disappointment of suburban adolescence, the show's four main characters yearn for sex, booze and cheap thrills, without the emotional maturity, money or ID to get them. Briefcase-carrying nerd Will (Simon Bird) has recently left the relative sophistication of private school to join Rudge Park Comprehensive, where he befriends Simon (Joe Thomas), Jay (James Buckley) and Neil (Blake Harrison); a group precariously straddling the social gulf between the in-crowd and the outcasts. This release contains the complete first series, and features a wealth of rubbish insults, even more rubbish come-backs, and plenty of mum-jokes. With some invaluable life-lessons on wooing the ladies, bunking off school, getting served in the pub, and why you should always, always remember proper etiquette on a roller coaster.

Extras
– Audio commentaries by the writers/cast/ producer
– Video diaries from all four cast members
– The making of documentary
– Meet the cast (what the boys are really like)
– Deleted scenes

5.0 out of 5 stars Made me laugh out loud, 12 Jul 2008
I found this programme on E4 by accident a few weeks ago, and, honestly, it's one of the best/funniest things I've ever seen. Made me laugh out loud and I can't remember the last time that happened. (I'm a miserable ***). All the characters and general plots have been well described by others so I won't repeat their comments apart from agreeing wholeheartedly with them - apart from one (Right, Graeme?) So glad it's on DVD and there MUST be another series. I wish I could buy the entire cast/crew/writers and everyone else a drink.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Loved It, 30 May 2008

I saw the 6th episode on e4 last night, and have to say its one of the best shows for a long time. its incredibly easy to relate to, not one episode lets it down and i just pray to god they commission a second series, and perhaps airing it on channel 4 to boost ratings might help.

5.0 out of 5 stars As fit as Wills' Mum!, 28 Jun 2008
This is what Channel 4, E4, comedy used to be about. With Peep Show starting to lose its edge (only just) and off the wall stuff like Father Ted a fond memory it desperately needed something and this is it.

I hated Skins, Hollyoaks for grown ups, and could never get away with the 'thumbs up to the drug culture' idea behind Shameless; Also after the terrible Blunder, hang your head channel 4 (and David Mitchell for being involved) for ever releasing such rubbish I was not expecting anything, especially as it had been condemned to E4 anonymity, so much so that I missed all but the 5th episode.
I have to say it was brilliant, a breath of fresh air in sit-coms. Yes there is swearing and sexual innuendo, I'm not a fan of too much swearing on TV but this just seemed right, realistic without feeling it's swearing for swearing sake.
I watched the whole series re-run and could not have been more impressed with a new comedy. The characters are a typical group of decent lads who find girls a mystery and the art of social etiquette a sharp learning curve into the big step up between teenage school leaver and sixth form young adult.
The main characters are so well observed that you really do feel a part of the group, something I haven't felt since Seinfeld and that's big praise.
All the lead roles are played admirably, the feelings of awkwardness, peer manipulation and the oblivious ignorance of the real world are what this part of life is about, and you get all that plus some of the best comedy moments for years.
They gel together so well it's hard to believe you aren't watching a fly on the wall series at times.
Jay reminds me very much of Eric Idle in both his confident performance and looks, the 'Nudge, nudge, wink, wink' sketch springs to mind.
Look out for stand up comedian Greg Davies who plays a world weary headmaster who has seen it all, and probably done it all, an excellent cameo and sure to give him more comedy roles.
I can't recommend this enough it is a sign that 4 is getting back to its comedy roots. BUY IT YOU BUMDERS!

And yes Wills Mum really is fit!
