5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun, 6 Jun 2008

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Everybody's Golf 2 has the same gameplay as the original Everybody's Golf. You start off with two players and by winning items for them you improve how they play, this is in challenge mode. You win 3 types of cards and have to win 5 in each to open a vs character. If successful against the character you are then able to play with him/her. You also have tournament, practice and mini game modes. I have only played in challenge mode at the moment, because I am trying to make my players play better.

The old Everybody's Golf had a mode where you could play against people near you via wi fi and provided they had their own game, which was fun. This new game takes it one step further in that you can play against people over the internet (provided you have wi fi access) either with people local to you (which I presume is the country you are in) or global which is self explanatory. You can also play with people near you too as in the old game.

I have played in global mode in a tournament against people from USA, GB and Japan. The gameplay here is excellent and the top four get placed, I think you win items here because I was awarded one for coming 2nd.

It is very similar to the new Everybody's Golf for the PS3, just a cut down version but will satisfy anyone who suffers withdrawal systems from the PS3 version and wants a more mobile version of the game.

Graphics are on par with the previous game as far as I can tell which means they are excellent still.

It is an easy game to play, basic controls are just pressing the x button twice to hit the ball, though cleverer people can add all sorts of gameplay by pressing other buttons to introduce backspin and the like. However, I get by just fine on just pressing x.

The game is suitable for all ages and provides a lot of fun whether you want to do the challenges or just want a quick game of console golf.

I can definitely recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but much too similar to the first game., 20 Jun 2008

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
For those who are unfamiliar with the first Everybody's Golf, is is unashamedly about fun over realism, so if you are looking for an accurate golfing simulation, most definitely look elsewhere.

And it is good fun - not difficult to make steady progress, with a even stream of small rewards and new stuff to win.

But I think some players who already have EG1 will be disappointed, because it is extremely similar to the first game on PSP. For example, two out of the first three courses you can play are lifted straight from the first game, which does feel very mean indeed.

There are some improved graphical aspects - the course lighting changes with time of day, it is easier to read the slope of the green as arrow flow is brighter, and the bullseye style rings around the hole that appear when you get close are a nice touch.

This is more like everybody's golf 1.5 than everybody's golf 2, but having said that, the price is low, and there was nothing much wrong with the first game.

If you did not try the first game, this is a great buy at the price, if you did try it, only buy if you want more of the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent and fun, 3 Jan 2009

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I have had Everbody's Golf 2 for a while, but recently have made a concerted effort to complete the single player tournaments and i must say I fully enjoyed the experience.

The basic facts are that it is a cute, but solid japanese golf game which allows you to collect different outfits after winning matches. Don't be fooled by the very cute graphics - the actual golf is possibly more accurate than even Tiger Wood's games!! The issue i have with TG is that you can add spin to your ball in mid air and therefore "cheat" by correcting your mistakes by adding the appropriate spin direction - in EG2 (as with all EG games) you have to set the spin before you hit the ball and then live with any mistakes! That said EG2 does have some "special" abilities such as a homing shot that you would not find in a real golf game!

The single player game focuses on unlocking different items to wear by winning various games - either tournaments or 1 on 1 matches. This has the immediate effect of levelling up your character's abilities and also allows you to mix and match various clothes to produce a wide variety of outfits. Certain combinations also give bonuses to your character. It is this element that raises EG2 above its PS3 counterpart(which only allows you to change the colour of your outfit!) and keeps you playing just to unlock more crazy items! Therefore, even though you can not create your own character, you can customise existing charcter's in a vast multitude of ways. The loyalty level also unlocks special abilities for you characters so encourages you to use the same character for a while! After you get a certain number if items you can play the next unlockable character and thus also unlock a new rank with more challenges and new golf courses. As well as all that you can find new items or equipment or new charcters on the golf course - sometimes needing certain conditions to unlock.

OK- now for my niggle section (no game is perfect!). The learning curve is very shallow and you do not really get much of a challenge until you reach gold rank in my experience. The AI in the tournaments is a little too obvious in trying to match your level of game play - although this gives you the feeling that you could win even if you play a hole very badly! The final, and supposedly best, unlockable character was also too easy and often made basic mistakes such as hitting the ball in the water or out of bounds in several of the holes. I would have liked the final special ability unlocked at maximum loyalty to be different for each character rather than being all the same. Finally, although i like the traditional three-click control system, it would be nice to incorporate a more graphical style like the ps3 game than just using the old bar at the bottom of the screen!

Niggles asside this is a must-buy game for anyone with a psp and even a vague interest in golf games. The focus on fun but solid golf play with rpg elements makes it more interesting then the more graphically realistic Tiger Woods game!
