Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

Echochrome is a genuinely challenging puzzle for the mind. It looks simple to solve, but it’s a lot trickier than first appearances. The player controls an infinite canvas, guiding a mannequin figure by carefully controlling the perspective, tilting and turning the level to create a continual pathway for the mannequin to walk safely through the design. Throughout the encounter, the mannequin will be guided by echos, or shadow guides, used as progress points to advance players along the pathway. Users are scored for how quickly they can solve the puzzle.

5.0 out of 5 stars A whole new kind of mental workout !, 5 July 2008
By G. Hewitt (London, UK) - See all my reviews

Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
If you are an avid fan of puzzle games or just feel like giving all your other games a break (or feel like you have neglected your PSP) turn to Echochrome for solice.

Uniquely set in a dimension of obscurity, where your main objectives are to spin levels to create new pathways and to avoid dead ends on a classical soundtrack of viola tunes.

This is definitely one of those games you will turn to again and again...

There are five perspective laws of Echochrome (which are all featured in an interactive demonstration):

Rule 1: "Never talk about Echochrome"

Nah, only joking...

Ok, here goes:

1. The Law of Perspective Travelling - when two separate pathways appear to be touching, they are.

2. The Law of Perspective Landing - if one pathway appears to be above another, it is.

3. The Law of Perspective Existence - when the gap between two pathways is blocked from view and the pathways appear to be connected, they are.

4. The Law of Perspective Absence - when a hole is blocked from view, it does not exist.

5. The Law of Perspective Jumping - when the Walker jumps, he will land on whatever appears to be beneath him.

Echochrome is all shrouded in a pure white background. Platforms are thinly outlined in black pencil lines.

Guide the marionette towards the shadowy marionettes without tumbling off the edge by using the Five Perspective Laws.

The concept is so simple yet genius.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brain Workout, 28 Sep 2008
Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
I'm not a hugely experienced games player, but this had me totally involved, and convinced me that the PSP had been a worthwhile purchase.

Imagine an abstract Escher world of staircases, platforms, holes and walkways which can revolved in 3D; it is "walked" by a lone character, and by manipulating his world he chases shadows or "echoes" of himself.

I found the game more addictive than any other I have ever played; the repetitive string quartet track adds to the intensity of the experience (but I'm a classically-trained musician so I'm probably biased!)

If you like flashy adventure action games this probably isn't for you, but if you want a concentrated brain workout, give it a go!

2.0 out of 5 stars DO. NOT. BUY. THIS. GAME.
I had really high expectations for this game after waiting half a year for it. I played it for 2 hours and got halfway through the game (already!) and stopped playing it. Read more
