5.0 out of 5 stars Best band in UK, 16 Jul 2009
By Mr. M. J. Mccleary "Martin James" (Berwick, Northumberland UK) - See all my reviews

Quite simply Stapleton should be huge. "Rest..." is another splendid collection of songs. Long before the term 'emo' was hijacked by the goth kids and the media Stapleton were at the forefront of the UK underground scene.
Al Paxton's voice is never better than when he bears his soul on Birds In Formation, stripped back and minimalist. A re-working of live favourite Chez Chef does the unthinkable and tops the original and the angst filled Borovet displays a darker side to the lyrics.
A splendid, splendid album. For fans of Death Cab, Promise Ring or Red House Painters. Only pity is they don't tour as Al is NY.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 6 Jun 2008

This is a brilliant album from Scottish Indie four peice Stapleton. Fans of Death Cab, Pinback, Dartz, Metronomes. If you liked Hug The Coast then you will love this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Yet, 12 May 2008
By A. Barnard - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A really good album, this. Sadly 'emo' is now a byword for adolescent soft rock so that would do the band a disservice. Wasn't sure at first, but after a few listens it's one of those that grows on you and stays there with subtle pop hooks and great use of 2 guitars. Quite a bit more uptempo than their previous releases with a lot more consistent songwriting. It doesn't have the almost flawless J Robbins production of "Hug the Coast" but the band have done a fine job and it's very close. My only gripe would be the rather naff quality paper the CD insert is printed on. Stapleton deserve a whole lot more recognition than they get. Give this one a chance.
