Don't miss this inexpensive package of joyous music. Quint clearly loves this music and makes it easy to agree with him. The caprices are virtuoso pieces,yet he dances through them with apparently effortless ease.
The sonata is altogether more substantial. It speaks very directly in Corigliano's always very personal voice, which could almost seem old-fashioned were it not deployed so skilfully in the service of moving music-making.
The Virgil Thompson pieces are sharply drawn by composer and performers.
Quint and Wolfram make a well-suited duo.
