Bought this camera as a standby for a recent holiday as my DSLR is too bulky to carry all the time.The TZ4 is certainly compact enough to carry all the time. It proved to give excellent results and has very intelligent features that make shooting easy under most conditions.The Leica made lens is another strong point. The LCD screen is big and bright.It has a small built in memory plus the ability to use the readily availble and cheap SDHC memory card.This does not come with the camera.Get the biggest SD memory capacity you can afford, especially if you are going to shoot alot of video.
Now the down side. The controls on the back are small and so placed as to make them difficult to avoid when holding the camera for normal shooting.The zoom control is rather small and does not fall readily to hand,or should I say finger tip, when needed.
Some of the buttons and switches don't have a quality feel making me wonder how long they will last.
The built in flash is on the right and tends to invite fingers to half cover it when gripping the camera. Even my 8 year old daughter's dainty little fingers tended to do this.
There is no optical viewfinder, only the lcd screen, a common feature on many similar cameras now, but it is nice to have a conventional viewfinder for action shots and shooting in bright sunshine when the screen is not so visible.
The small battery does not last very long,although it recharges quickly off the mains.A spare one of the Panasonic brand is a bit pricey.
I would not buy one of these as a main camera, it would be worth spending a bit more for one of the £250+ Canons or Nikons, but as a second or occasional use camera it is OK with better than OK results.

I bought mine august last year on different web site and still i am impressed with this camera and with battery to be honest this is the only camera i had which last almost 3 days on my holiday taking videos and still pictures and fill up my whole 4 gb sdhc card without needing recharge the battery. Quality was really superb and with 10 x optical zoom almost like a mini slr camera for long and far objects.

I am very happy with this one.
