5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, 12 May 2008

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is incredable and revolutionary, it doesn't need a particularly good computer to run it and is a bargain at £12.

In Portal you play the part of the protagonist who finds herself involved in an "experiment" for "Appature Science". The game has a surprisingly good storyline as well as a great sense of humour!

The gameplay is unmatched in any puzzle game and you get a huge satisfaction from figuring out how to complete each experiment, which in my opinion, have a perfect level of difficulty.

The only downside to Portal is it's length, 4-5 hours. Although there are many extra levels you can download from the internet and you will almost certainly want to play it through for a second time. The first 12 levels (out of a total of 19) are more of tutorials and you will complete these in about an hour, it's in the last 7 levels where this game really shines, and these will take up most of your time. Once the game is completed you unlock variants of levels 13-18 where they are either made more difficult or you are given a challenge (i.e. in less that x amount of steps/time/portal creations).

Just in case anyones interested in how the game runs, it runs very smoothly with all settings on High or very High on my computer which has the following:
Windows Vista Home Premium
AMD 5600 x2 2.8Ghz Processor
2gb 800Mhz RAM
ATI HD 2600XT 256mb Graphics card

5.0 out of 5 stars Portal, 10 Jun 2008
By David Brookes (Sheffield, UK) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

Awesome puzzle game using the H-L2 engine. It involves creating an "open" portal with one button, and an "exit" portal with another - use it to figure out you way around obstacles and enemies.

Sounds very simple; in reality, it's an intricately desiged, incredibly-challenging game that fails only because it's too short. There is a very loose story and a boss battle of sorts at the end that really pushes this game from four stars to five. Awesome ending credits, with brilliant music throughout. Definately not one to miss.

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I'm not much of a gamer but I loved this.

I was even able to complete it in one day - which is saying something as I've only ever completed one game before and that was back in 1983!

Reaction speed is not what is important it is more a case of timing and thinking how to solve the puzzles - a very good challenge for the old noodle.
