I've been a huge fan of Sarah McLachlan and her music ever since I discovered her music when it was showcased on the TV show Due South. I've got all her albums (except bloom/remixed) and plenty of live show recordings.

There are brilliant covers and collaborations on this album, most notably the Beatles' Blackbird, Randy Newmans' When She Loved Me from the film Toy Story 2 and a Live version of Angel recorded at Lilith Fair with Emmylou Harris.

But as with volume 1 of rarities there are a few not so good ones, in this case Unchained Melody, Ordinary Miracle and Just Like Me (yes, the ugly kid Joe song). Silence is also a rather strange inclusion as a finisher as there is no other dance song on the album, an acoustic version or rock version of Silence would have fitted better. That said Delirium's silence is the closest I've ever got to liking dance music, so it is not without credit!

Interestingly there seem to be songs where Sarah provides little more than minor vocals, which is strange given the omission of Difficult Kind duet with Sheryl Crow and Lilith Fair collaborations Big Yellow Taxi and Water Is Wide. It is also a shame the rare "Wuthering Heights" pre-show out take is absent!

It is undoubtedly an essential album for fans (for whom this release ultimately aimed at), but otherwise I'd recommend sticking to the main albums.

First forget 'concept albumns' - rather treat it as a collection of songs which did not fit elsewhere. Then sit back and relax... Whilst the production quality is sometimes a little 'rough' - it adds to the whole feel of the albumn... an evening with Sarah (and freinds). The only downside is the remixed Delerium track (which I like) which does not fit the rest of the CD atmosphere.

Overall a good CD to get, and not just for 'collectors'.

This review won't mean much unless you are already a big fan of Sarah McLachlan.
Alongside the wonderful 'When She Loved Me' from the Toy Story 2 soundtrack (which was incidentally a hugely demanded track on itunes in its own right), there are many b-sides and tracks that she has worked on with other artists from Bryan Adams to The Perishers. This is not just another Sarah Mclachlan album or a cynical cash-in - it's new tracks that have not been released as solos before.
Admittedly, the production is not always brilliant ('The Rainbow Connection' for example is clearly a work-in-progress) but fans will not be disappointed.
Having said this, if you are not a Sarah McLachlan fan or are just starting to like her music then my advice would be to start with 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' and 'Afterglow'
