5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, inventive satire., 8 Aug 2008
Spitting Image really gets into full swing here, boasts a crew of some of Britain's top satire writers and impressonists. Politicians of all leanings come in for a pasting. Thatcher rules her motley band with a rod of iron, Reagan is still enjoying his years of blissful ignorance and Russia is now run by the trendiest man ever to sport a kipper tie. Meanwhile, the Kinnock-led Labour party is keeping one 'pit' open for King Arthur and the Tory wets take a swim. Celebrities also appear, from Paul Daniels presenting a tacky game show to Leonard Nimoy desperately trying to throw off his Mr Spock image. Though maybe a few sketches will go over some peoples' heads, most are well-written and hilarious.

3.0 out of 5 stars Classic comedy, 2 Aug 2008
As an 18 year old who never had the chance to watch the series the first time round, I have bought both series 1 and 2 on DVD. I was told that during series 1 Spitting image was finding its feet and as a result of this was not as good as the subsequent series.
However, now having viewed the second series, I actually prefer series 1.

In my opinion series 2 did not have enough political comedy in it and was much too celebrity based. Series 1 had a lot of Thatcher and the cabinet and I adored the scenes with them in. Although the ones in series 2 were great, especially a manical Michael Heseltine in full Falklands mode! But there wasn't enough of it and I was disappointed.

I'm hoping series 3 etc will pick up again but perhaps elder viewers of the show already know what to expect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Literally, The Best Out Of The Eighteen Series, 4 Jan 2009
By Mr. E. R. Thomson (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Right, you've sat through the first series of 'Spitting Image' (barely noticing any spoofs - due to the change of times and here is Series 2). Who can blame the audience for not remembering an advert for 'Birdseye Fruit & Veg Mix' from 1985? Being spoofed with much thought put into it, the sketch still appears funny even if you never saw the advert! This is a good sign - I didn't realise it was a spoof untill I stumbled upon the advert on my original VHS recordings! The spoof shows an advert for mixed vegetables, retailed by the Nazis! Comparing the two (if you can find the original) makes the sketch even funnier.

Alright, that's one spoof made clear as an example of how those rather hysterical 30 second sketches can pass your mind. Series 2 is the worst case for the spoofs and time after time I watch the series, I pick up something new - i.e the 'Clive James On Television' spoof seeing the opposite to the programme, a Japanese man sitting next to the television set with Clive James' puppet on the television screen. That spoof strangely passed me, as I wasn't paying attention and knew the spoof quite perfectly.

The viewer must also be aware of 80's politics (something which I've never had a problem with), unlike those television spoofs, this is an easier target to look up with the internet (Wikipedia).

This week, I watched the series for the...sixth? time and the humour really was there. From now I consider this the best series. The times were simply put by a team of artists who didn't know what to come out with each week (and when they did know what to do each week, the series didn't stand as well)! The spoofs have been carved well and the writing was at the top.

Everyone has their opinion, if you've viewed this like me it should bring pleasure all around.

This is only one era of 'Spitting Image' out of around seven!
