Product Description

Proper Music
Buddy Whittington is filling the current guitarist slot of the legendary Bluesbreakers, his self titled album is rammed with some of the best rocking blues tracks this side of ZZ Top & Stevie Ray Vaughan, who coincidentally, he pays homage to on this storming blues/rock album.

Album Description
Buddy Whittington is the current incumbent in the guitarist slot of the legendary Bluesbreakers. It's a position he's occupied since the departure of Coco Montoya in '93. In typical style, Buddy's band The Sidemen, who had been making waves on the local Texas scene, where given the support slot to the visiting John Mayall in '91. John was impressed by Buddy, so much so that when Coco quit, he made one phone call to Texas.

As well as being an exceptional guitarist Buddy is also a fine singer and a excellent writer. The opener "Young & Dumb" sets pulses racing with some fantastic slide guitar and wry lyrics including the gem "Made Milwaukie famous, gave me a headache." It's a sign of things to come as the lyrics generally are a cut above average and the guitar playing is off the scale. The punning title of "Stevie Rave On" actually proves to be a fitting tribute to the late great fellow Texan and "Second Banana" is a laugh out loud killer. The absolute business.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a guitarist, 6 Mar 2008
By R. Howison "Bob Howison" (South West UK) - See all my reviews

A top drawer, well produced album from this, in the opinion of many, the finest blues guitarist playing today. Buddy's singing voice will pleasantly surprise new listeners too.

The album contains mostly self written numbers including, an excellent Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute song. Also, on the album is an eight minute version of ZZ Top's, Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell. Buddy's guitar playing on this track and others including, Greenwood is breathtaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buddy Whittington, 2 April 2008
In my opinion there is not a single bad track on this album and well deserves a 5 star rating.

A long overdue album by probabaly THE finest blues guitarist around. It would be wrong though to just categorise Buddy as a blues guitarist, because his playing style and technique go beyond the blues. His vocals are not bad either!

Listen to the album and be truly amazed - well worth the money at any price.

5.0 out of 5 stars We're not worthy..., 4 April 2008
By P. J. Ellis "bb" (west mids) - See all my reviews

this was available direct from Buddy's Myspace or at gigs and now seems to have a proper release - rave reviews in guitar magazines probably helping.
its very good modern blues. Big influence of contemporary country ( lyrical puns, twists on familiar chord progressions, clean production, some country licks)and a smattering of ZZ Top combine to give a defined style that is heads above the competition. he's a technically gifted musician he uses that gift to produce music not twaddle. Great guitar tones - I so want to remortgage the house now for a vintage strat and a Dr Z amp!
Highly recommended.
