Synopsis

Law and Order has succeeded largely because it has a formula that emphasizes story over character. Each show begins with the police discovering a crime, and for the first half-hour two detectives wade through the evidence to come up with a prime suspect. The second half hour follows the suspect to trial and is told from the DA's point of view to allow the show to dissect the intricacies of the US legal system. Staying topical by taking cases straight from current headlines, Law and Order is no less compelling when seen long after the real life events have faded from the headlines, thanks in large part to its terrific cast and its intelligent and involving writing. Contains the complete sixth series of the show.

I watched this season on the Hallmark TV channel. It was as good as any of the other previous and later seasons.

Note that one episode is a cross-over with the TV programme Homicide. Part one is a Law And Order episode while part two is episode eleven in the 3rd series Homicide box set. I doubt the Homicide episode will be included in this box set. The connection between the two parts is not very substantial and the Law And Order episode does have a satisfying conclusion. Interestingly the character Det. John Munch from Homicide later moved over to Law And Order: Special Victims Unit as a regular character.

Also note that it has a format breaking episode were there is no case to investigate, but instead we see the characters deal with the aftermath of witnessing an execution by lethal injection. Like a previous format breaker (no prosecution segment, just multiple cases being investigated by the detectives) it doesn't really work.

Season 6 was great watching and kept me entertained thoughout.

Definitely a must for all fans of crime programmes.

Season Six of L&O is perhaps one of the best to date. Some great episodes, especially the finale "Aftershock". Also introduces Benjamin Bratt as Det. Rey Curtis!
