4.0 out of 5 stars Nizlopi back on top form!, 31 Mar 2008
Having waited for this album for goodness knows how many years, I was quick to buy it on the release day and was not disappointed. Some real gems - particular highlights are 'The One' and 'Feel Inside'. As usual Nizlopi takes us through breathtakingly fast feel-good numbers to heartfelt revelations and back again across fourteen songs which see them back on par with their debut in 'Half These Songs are About You'. What puts it a cut above is the addition of more experimental elements, such as a gospel choir, brass and Benjamin Zephaniah(!) whilst still managing to keep the raw acoustic sound. My personal favourite is 'Part of Me' which narrowly beats 'Freedom' as the best ever Niz song. The sentiments expressed through the lyrics are just so touching, sung with the plain honest approach we've come to expect.

Narrowly misses out on five stars because of some of the songs included we have seen before as B-sides, on the mini album (Flooded Quarry) or just around the net as live versions (England Uprise, If You Care About It, Find Me), although admittedly the studio-recorded versions are a welcome addition. One or two of these just didn't quite meet up to my expectations. But on the whole, an excellent album comprising everything we've come to know and love from Nizlopi in all its glory. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish there were more stars..., 2 Jul 2008

So full of positivity - it should be on the National Curriculum or be free-issued to all. It would solve a good number of this nation's ills for sure. Live, Nizlopi are incredible: see them and be a fan for life. I know music is subjective, but I just don't get the "disappointed" and "forced" reviews - I suppose on first listen I felt like it was really good but not great, but give it a few spins and read the lyrics and there really is depth and feeling and poetry and meaning and hope. I love it and am just about to buy a second copy for my sissy, who appreciates and cherishes good music x

5.0 out of 5 stars Make it Happen, 20 May 2008
By CJR (Spain) - See all my reviews
This album is rather unusual and to me differs quite a bit from Half These Songs. This album is a lot more grown up which is evident not only in the music itself but also in the lyrics. The lads make it clear that they are very aware of certain world situations, the only downside to this being it may sometimes come across a bit preachy. That, and Luke trying his hand at rap! I've listened to Make It Happen almost nonstop for a couple of weeks and despite my small criticism above I love it. The songs are beautiful, full of feeling and hard to forget. I particularly like Feel Inside, Last Night in Dakar, Drop Your Guard and Flooded Quarry.

Nizlopi's first album was brilliant. This one is probably as good if not better. Save for a couple of not so good songs, each one is fantastic. Read more
