2.0 out of 5 stars Need a reminder?, 17 Aug 2008

(REAL NAME)
The product description calls this a compilation packed with action, interviews, and unseen footage. Fair enough, that's what it gives you; though there doesn't seem to be much "unseen" footage to speak of.

I can only recommend this DVD for loyal fans, new fans would do well to avoid this.

---------------------

If you're a loyal, old fan of wrestling (or the WWE to be precise) I suppose you might appreciate re-living the nostalgic moments this DVD contains. The two major problems you'll suffer would be:

1. The sound*; the DVD-sound-transfer seems to have destroyed all the (satisfyingly) loud cheering and atmosphere, making what seemed like an exciting moment become a funeral reception.

*Worth noting however- that I only watched the DVD on a stereo TV.

2. Censorship; despite the 18 certificate, profanities are still bleeped and a certain hand gesture is blurred. There's also the whole issue of the WWF logo; footage from the much loved "Attitude" era have all its logos blurred, affecting the titantron, turnbuckles, even the T-shirts of the officials; it's a constant, nagging irritation.

True, these problems are only cosmetic, but re-watching particular sections just left me hugely under-whelmed; it's just hard to pinpoint what was missing.

---------------------

If you're a new fan of wrestling, you'd do well to steer clear of this compilation completely. The main problem you'll suffer would be simple lack of background information.

The footage is incredibly unforgiving to the ignorant; there are moments where the viewer has no idea what's going on or what the significance of it is.

The worst examples of this would be "Mean Street Posse vs. The Stooges" and "Mankind Wins the WWE championship", one of these moments is very significant, but you'll have to research into the subject before understanding what the significance was and why, because this DVD WON'T tell you what it is.

There are captions of information that appear on-screen occasionally, but ONLY occasionally, which offer SOME information- but it's usually only concerning the titles the particular wrestler on-screen has won; which is irrelevant.

---------------------

There were always bound to be particular "classic" moments included that one would not agree with, and others which would be left out*, but looking at the whole you could say the DVD has enough content to warrant its price tag. (No more than £18)

*The worst omission in my opinion would be the debut of the "Radicalz", sadly left out of the DVD obviously due to recent events (Benoit).

It's just sad though, at how the Undertaker and John Cena are featured on the cover of the DVD despite having little to practically NO footage involving them; so this DVD certainly isn't for fans of the Undertaker or John Cena.

It might be worth seeking out the numerous other DVD's focusing on a particular wrestler's career, there's a good chance their best moments on Raw will also be included there.

For the most part, this compilation is a celebration of Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin and Triple H, but not a very good one at that.

5.0 out of 5 stars lovely stuff, 4 Mar 2008

If you're a WWE fan, or a fan of wrestling in the past 10+ years or so, this DVD should be a definite purchase. With 9hrs of highlight material showing 15 years of great moments it's hard to not recommend. Everything that should've been included on this DVD has been. Nothing has been left out. The UK version also comes with a 4th ("bonus") dvd of the first Monday Night Raw in 1993. Yeah OK, it's not essential but it sweetens the deal. Purchase this DVD.
