Album Description
Lawrence "Bud" Freeman (1906 - 1991), one of the top tenors of the 1930s, was a great innovator of the vintage Chicago-style jazz. His career spanned more than 50 years from his time with Eddie Condon and Red Nichols in the 1920s and 30s, through stints with the orchestras of Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman to the World's Greatest Jazz Band in the 1960s.
These 1976 live recordings from Dublin, now being released for the first time, were recorded at a time when Freeman was living in London. Although he performed and recorded such warhorses as "Tea For Two", "I Got Rhythm", "Exactly Like You" and "Just One Of Those Things" a countless number of times during his long career, he could always come up with fresh statements and ideas. The set is well recorded, the other musicians were inspired by Freeman's presence, and the results are memorable, full of happy sounds, exciting solos, and stimulating ensemble work.
