Product Description

Description

Unwieldy band name aside, Throw Me the Statue's MOONBEAMS is an all-over-the map lo-fi pop gem that finds Seattleite Scott Reitherman copping the Cars and Belle & Sebastian in equal measure. For much of MOONBEAMS, Reitherman uses everything from glockenspiels to cheap synths in a kitchen-sink approach similar to that of Sufjan Stevens, whose drummer Casey Foubert appears throughout the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great band from Seattle!, 30 Oct 2008
The American north-west is currently enjoying a real wealth of musical talent. Portland, Oregon can boast the likes of the Shins, Blitzen Trapper and Modest Mouse. Whilst Seattle, Washington has Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, Death Cab for Cutie and the quite brilliant Throw Me The Statue.

Moonbeams is a melting pot of different sounds and catchy melodies, there is a certain warmth to this record without it being overtly sundrenched. From the melancholy, electro-tinged openings of 'Young Sensualists'you know that this is a special record. Scott Reitherman's vocals are fantastic throughout the album, this is a band at the top of their game and thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Stand-out tracks include the ridiculously infectious 'About to walk', 'Lolita' and 'Yucatan Gold'. I genuinely feel this is one of the best albums of 2008, fans of Grandaddy and the Shins will not be disappointed. Buy the album, and try to catch one of their outstanding live shows!
