Violent City is one of the best Charles Bronson films. Bronson plays Jeff a hitman who is betrayed and left for dead. Needless to say it takes more than a few bullits to keep him down and he is soon seeking revenge on the man who shot him. However this is only the beginning of the plot. I won't go into any more plot detail and ruin your enjoyment of this film. The cast is top notch and includes Bronson's wife Jill Ireland and Telly Savalas (Kojak, On Her Majesty's Secret Service) as the mob boss. There is also a very good score by Ennio Morricone who scored a number of Italian Giallo films.

Blue Underground have done a fantastic job remastering the print and presenting it fully uncut. Although most of the film is in English language some scenes which were omitted from English language prints are in Italian language (they were never dubbed into English) but this does not spoil the film. These scenes are subtitled in English. The print is full 2.35 widescreen and is up to Blue Undergrounds usual high standard. The special features include an interview with Director Sergio Sollima who also co wrote the film, a trailer and a poster and still gallery. The dvd is region 0 coded and should work on most dvd players.

If you are a fan on Bronson then this Blue Underground release is the one to buy as it puts the other dvd releases of this film to shame. Thank you for reading my review.

well if your a fan of charles bronson i can personaly say this is one of his best films from spaghetti western director sergio sollima who made the best non leone films the big gundown with lee van cleef face to face with gian maria volonte and william berger tomas milian and run man run also with milian all with scores by ennio morricone . well this film stars bronson as a hitman in a love triangle with his real life wife jill ireland and telly savalas who gives a great performance as a mob boss . the action and fight scenes are very realistic also the car chase at the opening is well orchestrated and for ennio morricone fans his score is very dramatic and unforgetable . i dont want to give to much away but the assasanation scene in the glass lift is probably one of the most suspensful and executed moments ever put on the silver screen.

Can't add much to the above reviews, which I fully endorse. This film has high production values and boasts a 'stonking' music score by Ennio Morricone. I owned the soundtrack before actually seeing the film in the 70's. Well directed by Sergio Sollima and if you like Bronson plus his missus (the late Jill Ireland), you should not miss this movie.

This is one of Bronson's Masterpieces its as simple as tht it provided him with a role he would return to frequently, that of the cold blooded hit man. Just look at THE MECHANIC or THE EVIL THAT MEN DO. There is excellent sopport from Telly Savalas and Jill Ireland as the dumb blond with the heart of Medusa, manipulating all the male characters with obvious charms. And it features a great Morricone score and good extras!

Hitman Jeff Heston is betrayed by his best friend and his lover Vanessa Shelton. However their plan to kill him fails and he survives but it put in jail, upon his release he plots his revenge but local gangster Al Weber is determined to hire Jeff use him in his corporation.

Sergio Sollima directs this fast paced crime thriller starring future American superstar Charles Bronson. This went onto be a massive hit in both Europe (where Bronson was already a star) and in America.

Charles Bronson is great as the tortured hit man Jeff Heston. He is ruthless in the killing of his enemies, he shoots without thought or redemption but throughout the film he cannot bring himself to kill his ex lover Vanessa (played by his real wife Jill Ireland) even though she betrays him on more then one occasion. Telly Savalas has a small role as crime lord Al Weber who is now married to Vanessa.

The action is thick and fast, featuring car chases, fist fights, and assassinations. The best part of the film is its opening where Jeff and Vanessa are chased through the streets before he is betrayed and left for dead, that whole sequence is filmed without dialogue and it works perfectly. The only part I found myself getting bored in was the dragged out assassination at the drag race.

Ennio Morricone's music is good, fast and powerful but to me it's not one of his most memorable scores.

Overall a good action film with some nice direction and a good cast.

Extras include a very interesting interview with director Sergio Sollima. Wide Screen and very good DVD Quality

Bronson goes on holiday with Jill Ireland and opens up a vipers nest of bullets and double crosses, when a 'friend' tries to take him out..
Better than average Euro crime thriller with Charles Bronson, Telly Savalas and Jill Ireland. Ireland's acting is really funny in this one, especially in the splendid opening car chase. Sollima directs and to be honest, this isn't one of his best, allowing some of the scenes to drag a little, which you can't help but think if he'd of given a slightly shorter run time to, they would have been all the better for it. However by no means does that make this a bad film (Sollima's one of my favourites!), as he still provides the viewer with enough outstanding set pieces to make it worth your while, right up to the silent finale. Morricone's sound track is memorable enough and once again the stunt work of driver Remy Julienne is really good.
There are bottles of J&B present here but sadly, for an Italian crime thriller, no dancing from Mr Bronson on a discotheque dance floor!
The region 1 Anchor Bay dvd is a very good print, it comes with a poster/still gallery, bios, trailer and a cool little 15minute documentary with Sollima.
