5.0 out of 5 stars Annual soul, 19 April 2008
When Switchfoot became independant from their recording label, fans weren't sure whether to be scared or excited. Thankfully Jon Foreman decided to put any fears to bed with these stunning solo EPs. They are in his own words "Songs that didn't need a full band, more like quiet jam sessions on my own". So before you possibly panic, no Switchfoot haven't split up, Jon is just expanding on the side and its simply breath taking.

He has planned to release a series of EPs each season, with each group of songs reflecting upon the mood of each Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. (for those who are really keen Spring is currently on sale on itunes as well as Fall and Winter).

The songs are open, honest and soulful. At the heart of each we see a man with a guitar using music to come to terms with reality and the result is sheer brilliance. Foreman probs into the darkest corners of life itself and asks the question we're all dancing round. Fall has a slightly lighter sound than Winter. JOn admits he finds it easier to write sad songs so I was more than amazed when the Spring EP brought out some of the most beautiful lyrics and melodies I'd heard from him in a long time.

I highly recommend :)

Fall:
-The Cure for Pain
-Lord, save me from myself

Winter:
-Learning how to die
-White as snow *

Spring:
-Your love is strong *
-Love isn't made

*some of his best work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning accoustic melodies., 18 Feb 2008
By Mr. N. W. Blackford (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Jon Foreman's voice is perfect for this array of accoustic ballads. If you're familiar with Foreman's band Switchfoot, you may know what to expect. Some of these tracks feel like Switchfoot's more mellow tracks, especially those from their more recent albums Nothing Is Sound and Oh! Gravity, yet they gain enough ground to hold up as their own.

Personally I found the melodies of Fall much more pleasing to listen to than the slightly darker Winter EP. Foreman comments as usual on the fragility of life, questioning the status-quo without being afraid to admit the world's often darker nature. It would be easy to come across as dramatic or depressing but Foreman avoids this with some brilliant lyrics that will have you thinking even when the CD stops spinning.

The CD comes on two CDS and the packaging is prepared in a way that the Spring/Summer EP due out later this year will be attachable.

From Wikipedia:

Switchfoot is often referred to as a "Christian band", mostly due to their involvement with the Christian rock scene in their early days. But the band has always shunned this label. "For us, it's a faith, not a genre", says Jon Foreman. "We've always been very open and honest about where the songs are coming from. For us, these songs are for everyone. Calling us 'Christian rock' tends to be a box that closes some people out and excludes them. And that's not what we're trying to do. Music has always opened my mind -- and that's what we want".[26] Duly, Jon's lyrics steer clear of preachiness, exclusive declarations of faith, or even any mention of Jesus Christ.
