This is Songdog's fourth album, and, in my opinion, their best yet. The trio are a folk noir band whose talent has somehow not been noticed by many but perhaps their time has come with this superb record, which is dark, poignant, sexy, beautiful and very different.

The lyrics are at times crude and often disturbingly bleak, but always profoundly literate and interspersed with the wry and bitter witticims of ex-playwright and frontman Lyndon Morgans. Many of the songs have spiritual undertones and the whole album has a transcendent feel with glorious, delicate melodies, where the acoustic, folky arrangements are often made lush by piano, accordion and strings.

Don't expect to be cheered up by this album, but if you want a record which is in a league of its own, where the everyday mundanities of life are turned into dramas of epic proportions and where the music truly seems to be otherworldly, then buy it. This is talent of a kind not often seen today.

I came across Songdog two years ago. They are a above average creative force led by Lyndon Morgans. This album is their fourth and is excellent. Every song is a story - some dark, some fictional, some sad but never that happy. It is compulsive listening once you start and early songs that you don't like grow on you.

If you like your music to be professional, challenging, imaginative and pefectly executed - this is it. Noir Folk is the genre tag - but I think it goes further than that.... try it.

Apparently Amazon's publishing police can't grasp why this would provide you an adequate synopsis of this piece of art. If you have seen Lyndon and the rest of the band perform, if you have listened to the songs, then you will understand why this is my actual review of this and the other Songdog albums:
