5.0 out of 5 stars The one to get for 2008, 13 Dec 2007
By Mart Music (Essex, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)

The bold 'Number 1' title of this album is presumably based on the fact that every one of the artists featured can claim current or recent chart success.

The 2CDs come neatly presented in a single jewel case with card slip cover, and the sleeve notes include details (and a small picture) of the album from which each track is taken.

This is a CD aimed not only at occasional listeners to classical music wanting to keep in touch with today's popular performers, but also those looking to discover something more of those artists but are unsure of which direction to follow.

I have a great respect for well-considered classical compilations like these for they showcase the long established artists such as Luciano Pavarotti, Lesley Garrett and Emma Johnson, while introducing (at least to those less familiar with classical music) some new names like Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, and the brilliantly flamboyant Russian soprano Anna Netrebko.

I like the fact that, rather than being arranged for the popular 'crossover' style, most of the songs are performed in their original 'classical' form therefore endorsing the album's claim of being Classical, if not the Number 1.

For its variety and quality of music and performers, if I were to recommend just one classical music compilation of todays artists released this year (2007) it would be this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chapter eight now up, 3 Jan 2008
I have been collecting these CDs since 2001 and excitedly look forward to the next Chapter being released. What a Joy it was to receive this Cd and find that it has lived up to the previous 7.Wonderful mix of Maestros and newbies adorn this album. From Great Brits such as Russell Watson and Jon Christos to the man dubbed the "new" Pavarotti.......Andrea Bocelli and beyond. Thanks go to UCJ for their continued promotion of these Cds and long may they continue :-))
