DVD Description

Russell has been busy cementing his place as one of the hottest properties in comedy with his BBC6 Music show every Sunday, loads of Mock The Week and Never Mind The Buzzcocks on BBC2, Would I Lie To You? and Live At The Apollo on BBC1, Law of the Playground on Channel 4 and Tough Gig, The Brits and The British Comedy Awards on ITV! But it is on stage where Russell really storms it. A complete sell out at Edinburgh 2004-2006, Russell sold every ticket of his 2007 run before the Festival had even started and couldn't add extra dates fast enough. His first nationwide solo tour of if.comedy and Barry Award nominated show 'Wandering' was a complete sell out success. This DVD is of his second tour 'Adventures' which was again sold out, including selling all tickets in one day for London's Bloomsbury Theatre where it was recorded.

Current tour information
An extra date has been added to his current tour, Dingledodies, at Wembley Arena (no less) on Thursday 4 December.

Synopsis

One of the most exciting up-and-coming comedians in Britain today, Russell Howard has already proved his comedy caliber as a regular panelist on MOCK THE WEEK, now its time for his first ever live stand-up DVD! Recorded live at London's Bloomsbury theatre during his critically acclaimed ADVENTURES tour, this release features Russell displaying his usual energetic enthusiasm as he muses over life's little oddities and quirks.

5.0 out of 5 stars I became an instant fan after watching this, 15 Dec 2009
By Ash (UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Some friends of mine went to see Russell at the Colston Hall in Bristol last year, and I declined having never heard of the fella. I'd never really bothered with Mock The Week and didn't have a digital radio at that point, so he was a completely unknown quantity to me. Then my girlfriend had this DVD bought for her for Christmas. I was instantly gutted that I hadn't seen him at the Colston Hall!
Russell is an elastic-faced, multi-voiced whirlwind of energy, jokes, warmth and pathos. He has an ability to bring in a crowd and carry them along with him. As others have noted, he is quite fast and jumps around an awful lot. This means you can lose the thread if you're only half concentrating. But the sheer wealth of material means that this is likely to be a DVD you return to many times over and are still discovering new jokes and things to laugh at on your third or forth watch.
Being a fellow Bristolian, I particularly enjoy his excellent Brizzle accent! He also has a face which lends itself well to comedic poses, particularly when he's portraying kids.
I rectified my mistake of not seeing Russell when I had the chance by going to see his new show at the CIA in Cardiff. It were lush!

5.0 out of 5 stars So funny it gets to the point of being painful to continue to laugh..., 16 Jun 2009

I bought this DVD after watching Russell Howard on Mock the week and I thought that his stand up leaves his performance on MTW choking on it's dust.
I find Russell Howards brand of comedy refreshing as he seems to genuinely love humanity, as well as increadibly sincere and I especially admire the fact that he shows respect for the people that other comedians feel are easy targets e.g. CHAV's, teenagers (im 18 myself) and also women.
I admit that his style of comedy may not be for everyone as he injects a high amount of energy into his stand up that he could be seen as being hyperactive. I also think the fact that he goes off on a tangent and can still be funny shows that he has natural comic talent. Personally I found that both this tour DVD and his current tour have left me feeling both positive and uplifted.

3.0 out of 5 stars Epilepticly Funny, 13 Feb 2009
By P. Henden - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As I said, my parents were in fits while watching this I must admit even though the material is not new material, Russell's presentation of it is just paramount. All the quirky anacdotes or family members are neighbours in Bristol, metting a straight man in Brighton! (horror of horrors!), and it all just works perfectly. along with Russell's repeat appearances on 'Mock the Week' strutting his stuff agaisn't the likes of Dara O'Brien and Frankie Boyle, he's also done wonderful shows at the Apollo. All in all this comic as I'm sure you know is going far with his ability to draw you in with his stories of his fantastic family and adventures while travelling. This is a very good live performance, a must have in your private comedy collection!

This is more for my sons than for me. If you've seen his spots on tv, eg Live at the Apollo, then you've seen most of this before.
