From Amazon.co.uk

Picking up six months after the end of Skins’ maiden season, this second series maintains the terrifically high standard set by the first. In its basic form a drama about teenagers, the trick to Skins is that it sidesteps the many, many clichés of the genre, and instead offers gritty, quite brilliantly written television.

What’s more, Skins is viewing that pulls no punches. By turns very funny, gripping and dramatic, it picks up the story of a group of under 20s in Bristol, dealing with issues of religion, sexuality and sex, among others. But it does this through a cast of three dimensional characters (each facing tough challenges of their own), suitably well realised by the primarily young cast. A selection of guest stars, including Harry Enfield, Bill Bailey and Shane Richie also appear.

But is the second series of Skins better than the first? Yes, not least because it’s willing to take risks, to evolve and darken the narrative a little, yet still remember to put its characters at the fore. It’s still a show that may baffle an older audience, but stands as a shining beacon as to what Channel 4 can achieve when it backs proper British dramas. Roll on series three. --Jon Foster

really enjoyed watching series I when I stayed in the UK for half a year; now I almost finished watching series II on dvd;

acting and story line improved compared to series I, but it also became much darker and sadder - so don't expect a feel good tv show - series II really can bring you down if you're in a bad mood.

don't get me wrong, it's absolutely worth watching and brilliantly done but I think it would have been even more fun to watch
with a stronger focus on the friendship with a bit less drama (People dying) and more funny stuff.

looking forward for series III although I don't know what to expect as they're about to swap the whole cast (which I don't think is a good idea as the old one is really really likeable and made Skins).

hopefully series III it will be less sadden :-)

for the meantime i'll continue with Shameless which is great too;

(sorry about my English but as I'm from Germany I can't do any better :-))

After the groundbreaking controversy of the first series the teenage drama reprised in 2008 to bring yet more heartfelt drama to the programme.

The dramatic impact of the final stages of series 1 epitomised what the first series denoted, delivering the unexpected which is why it was so well received by viewers and critics. This series picks up a more soap styled vibe, concentrating on more character issues rather than the particular issues, which has its advantages and disadvantages.

The disadvantages are hardly huge in context. There is less humour, less dark controversy when we shouldn't be laughing. Perhaps because the issues this time around are more serious, which didn't seem possible given what happened a year before.

There is more focus on underage sex, drugs and drinking. This year there is an added incentive to these issues, including unexpected pregnancy, psychological illnesses and dealing with loss.

The power to which all of these are decoded is staggering. The weighing up of options for the pregnancy is hugely important and whilst in society it is happening more frequently than any of us would like to admit, the importance of the pregnancy is hugely significant in relevance to the story and characters.

The series one cast returned and what would turn out to be their final series. Appropriately so in many ways.
Jal (Larissa Wilson) is the stand out of this series, beautifully charismatic in the approach to her character's needs and decisions.

Sadly we see less of Dev Patel as Anwar but more of Maxxie (Mitch Hewer) and the intro to the first episode with his break dancing sequence is great.

After receiving Skins series 1 for Christmas I couldn't wait for Series 2 to come along in February. It was worth the wait. The episode's in this series are overall very much darker. I have read several interviews and the cast have put that down to the fact that there is no need for introductions in this series. Which is fair enough really.. although several new characters have popped up from the series. There is Lucy aka Sketch who we were introduced to fully in episode 2 when we found out she was stalking Maxxie and of course Scarlette who we met in episode 4 (Michelle's episode) as Michelle's new step-sister - yes her mother's done it again.. re-married.

Overall a good series.

A bit of a let down after the first season. The charismatic leader of the group is a shadow of himself and a big void is left in the first few episodes. The love triangle thing between Michelle and Sid and Tony is wheeled out again this season even though it was put to bed in the first series. The Cassie character is portrayed less sympathetically this time too, she doesn't behave well towards Jal and at several points she comes off as dislikeable which is quite a feat after Season 1 where she was easily the sweetest one. Poor Anwar is given nothing to do really and the stalker story just came off as stupid and was ditched half way through, as though the writers realised it wasn't working. Michelle is also portrayed as less likeable this season. The best episode is probably the Chris one, although also the most far fetched. The Effy episode is perhaps the most realistic from the season, episode 6 the most surreal of the bunch. The music was great although some of it wasn't used on the DVDS. The website also set up a section devoted just to the fashion and music which was nice. The dialogue always felt natural and not forced but I found a lot of the character actions inappropriate. The Chris/Jal romance thing also wasn't too convincing and episode 8 was a chore to watch. Overall the problem with this season was the writers wanted to take it in a more grown-up direction but managed to suck a lot of the fun out with it, many of the characters look visibly older and more stale. The themes are heavy, teen pregnancy, drug addiction, stalking, adultery, betrayal, death.... Finally the whole Cassie New York story line served no purpose at all expect for the novelty of filming in New York.
