This, Spider's 2nd album, came in for some rather harsh and unfair criticism in certain sections of the music press upon its release in 1984. This may have been down to the fact that the band had tried to broaden their musical horizons and move away from the "12-bar boogie" formula of their first long player, "Rock 'N' Roll Gypsies". The result was a completely "self-penned" album not perhaps as immediately appealing as their debut but nonetheless one which, given half a chance, grew on you with each subsequent listen. Tracks like "The Minstrel" and "Time To Go Now" showed a new maturity and versatility in their songwriting and on "Death Row" the band retained their sense of fun while rockin' with the best of them. The bonus tracks this time around are Willie Dixon's "I Just Wanna Make Love To You" (originally released on the flipside of "Here We Go Rock 'N' Roll") and the single A-side "Breakaway" both from 1984. A final word of caution...as with "Rock 'N' Roll Gypsies", this appears to have been recorded from vinyl hence the loss of one star.
