5.0 out of 5 stars as great as you would expect from Genesis, 14 Nov 2007
By WHITLAM (leafy Clapham) - See all my reviews
Genesis have come together for the first time in many years. Those of us who were fortunate enough to see the gig at Twickenham will recall a balmy evening, blessed with wonderful light ; even the walk home afterwards seemed less painful than usual. Genesis played a generous set, from many periods of their long career, and it was delivered with the same verve as in the days of yore. I was so enthralled that I went off and saw the same gig at Madison Square Garden, New York. The quality of sound on this recording is unparallelled, considering it was a live gig, and you get the full set in the correct running order. Highlights are too many to enumerate, but Mama always entertains in an eerie way, while the drum duet between Chester and Phil, played apparently on barstools, is technically brilliant. The finale, Carpet Crawlers, was partly the reason why we all left the arena like lambs (pardon the awful attempt at humour).
This cd is a rare treasure and we await the DVD which is available in February.

4.0 out of 5 stars DON'T LEAVE THE CROWD OUT, 2 Jan 2008
By D. M. Roberts (Preston, Lancashire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I won't discuss the song choices - everyone has their favorites and there are certainly a number of songs I'd have changed on the setlist - but it is good that the set is available in its entirety.

However, my one gripe? I was at the Manchester gig and have a copy of the recording (as advertised at the concert) and the main difference between that and 'Live over Europe' (aside from the obvious polishing the latter CDs get) is that the audiance reaction and participation have been virtually edited out from this release. Because Genesis are such consumate musicians 'Live over Europe' almost sounds like a sudio recording, whereas my Manchester CD allows the listener to join in on a live gig.

Still, this reunion tour gave me the opportunity to see my fave band one more time and I never thought I'd see them again after the melted away in the mid '90s.

5.0 out of 5 stars STILL ALIVE AND OVER EUROPE..., 23 Nov 2007
I was there ! I saw them and I bought the encore serie "In Paris". But this double cd I just received is more... It's outstanding ! Not only it will take you back out there, but you will discover sounds and music you didn't heard at the concert ! Sounds like an 5.1 surround. Phil Collins is at his best, Tony Banks has nothing to prove, he is great, and Michael Rutherford's double neck sounds like cristal. Genesis fans this is a must ! And for those who just discover or missed the concert, rush for this double cd.
Can't wait to discover the "When in Rome" DVD out in February, or, why not, a new Genesis record and, who knows, a new Genesis tour...
