5.0 out of 5 stars On form!!, 14 Nov 2007
By Gordon Johnston "gordonjohnston3" (Edinburgh) - See all my reviews

Duran Duran, for me, are one of those bands that you either love or hate. In recent years the haters have had the loudest voices.

In anticipation of the bad reviews that this band will unfairly receive, I felt it was my duty to buy this single and review it (I actually can't remember the last time I, or anyone else I know, bought a single!!).

I don't think this is their best song, or single, since Ordinary World: there have been a number of overlooked tracks in the intervening years. It shares much with Ordinary World though and, had it been performed by a girl/boy band, would have been a massive hit.

I hope this song will be well received by critics. Duran Duran are a valuable British institution and have many years of life left in them. I also hope they will be more prolific and continue to take risks with their style. Ironically this song is traditional Duran fare from the 90s incarnation and is a fairly safe single.

Losing Andy Taylor hasn't been a disaster and, to be honest, I was slightly disappointed by much of his instrumentation on Astronaut. I still have hopes that they will work together again in the future. The band is somehow less vulnerable in its original form.

To sum up, a great Duran Duran single which contains Reach Up For The Sunrise [Live] as the B-side. I am very much looking forward to the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A glorious single, 13 Nov 2007

Duran Duran have been a band long only associated with the 1980's. How wrong people are.
This latest effort from their soon to be released album "Red Carpet Massacre" is easily their best single since their 1992 smash "Ordinary World."
Featuring songwriting and production input from Justin Timberlake, the result is a dreamy ballad with beautiful melodies and a catchy chorus.
Nice guitar solo at the end too, a lovely flowing song.
Top stuff.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not As Advertised, 16 Nov 2007
By J. R. Knapp - See all my reviews

The tracklisting on Amazon is not what is actually on the CD. An extended mix of Falling Down is supposed to be track 2, but the b-side is instead a live version of Reach Up for the Sunrise. Is there a version out there that contains the extended version of Falling Down?
