The former Hefner frontman Darren Hayman returns with his second solo opus since the demise of his first band (despite numerous credits with electro duo The French and bluegrass supergroup Hayman, Watkins, Trout and Lee). This time accompanied by his touring band, known as The Secondary Modern, Hayman maintains his everyman appeal and romantically unromantic lyrics about snooker, art teachers and cheap engagement rings. Fans of Hefner and Hayman's sardonic style will revel in the efficient production (courtesy of Tompaulin's Simon Trought) and the homespun narratives.

Doesn't look like anyone else is going to review this so I suppose, at the risk of appearing a Hayman obsessive, I am going to have to fill the yawning gap. This album is something of a return to the Hefner style circa We Love The City only with more instruments and better lyrics. It thus represents the ideal chance for those misguided souls who lost the faith during or after Dead Media to come back to the fold. There is nothing as good as "Good Fruit" here but there are 12 excellent songs that I defy anyone not to like.

Mr haymnan has done just that with this album, ok im in my mid / late twenties, but this is still a great album. From the chugging intro
of the first track, to the brit pop style classic of lets go stealing, and the wonderfull dramatic song nothing in the letters, the kind of song
only hayman could do this well. This is not just an album for hefner fans, its an album for anyone who loves a good pop record, cos these songs will just stick in your head, great stuff.
