Product Description

Tim Cumming, The Independent Information, 30th August-6th Sept 2008
This is music of the interior, billowing with telepathic interplay and a musical ESP like no other."

Mike Hobart, Financial Times, 30/31 August 2008
"... a brilliant summary of the trio's legacy, an exuberant mixture of baroque, rock and mainstream modern jazz. Gestated in a two-day studio jam while the trio toured Australia, the album captures the intuitive energy and experimentation of their best live gigs."

5.0 out of 5 stars Overwhelming!, 23 Aug 2008
This work is quite incredible. E.S.T. were surely a great band that knew how the keep "suspense" high. Nervertheless, with albums like "Tuesday Wonderland" they approached a degree of perfection that was impressive, but at the same time implied a problem: the music could become a formula, a well-done melange of modern piano jazz, raw rock energies and classical undertones. They had reached a point, where you could have said: "Well, I have a notion what their next album would sound like!" You couldn't be more wrong. "Leucocyte" grew out of a marathon-session-time in an Australian studio. It is an album that takes every possible risk: it is definitely their most radical piece of music: wild, enigmatic - and, most of all, unpredictable! I was stunned when I heared it for the first time, and I was even more stunned and blown away when I had listened twice! This will be a masterpiece in jazz history (if you give the term "jazz" a wide reaching definition including big spaces, zones of emptiness and psychedelic wonder!). The pieces nearly float into one another, with muscular grooves, discomforting zones of danger, and, sounds strange to say, a nearly otherworldly beauty!

3.0 out of 5 stars Bold, daring, 8 Sep 2008
By D. Eves "davideves" - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This album wasn't created to be an epitaph so shouldn't be seen as such. It came out of a marathon recording session during their Australian tour and is unlike most of their music live and quite unlike anything previously on disc. It's more like the album Song X and so would be unlikely to getting such rave reviews if it wasn't for the sudden and terrible recent event. It's early days but I can't see me reaching for this CD like I have and continue to do for many of their other albums when my wife and I are sitting down after the kids have gone to bed. It's wind up music rather than wind down which doesn't make it a bad album but it's one the average listener will need to work at. Another Thursday Wonderland would have been difficult to achieve and bless them for taking the risk. I shall need to work at this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars BLOOD BROTHERS, 1 Sep 2008
The dictionary definition of Leukocyte is "White blood cells that fight infections" and this, the final EST album, definitely does that, for this is vintage stuff,i like many others was shocked when Esbjorn was so tragically killed earlier on this year, and listening to various tributes an the BBC and RTE it was obvious what an exceptional talent the man was,so it is with a heavy heart that i listened to this album,ok there may never be another EST album, but believe me they have gone out with a corker, for this is stunning!!
Thia is not Jazz,it is more than that,Piano,Bass and Drums is what it says on the slightly ECM ish cover, but that is only the start for as seems to be with all Nordic music, the atmospherics of the piece add a certain mystique to the tracks.
It would be easy to just think of this as an Esbjorn Svensson album, but we shouldn't forget that Dan Bergland(Bass)and Magnus Ostrom(Drums) contribute greatly.
This album was recorded in Australia earlier on this year and was always planned to come out at this time, and the ACT label has shown great sympathy with the Family of Esbjorn by not cashing in on his death.
There is a book of condolences on the bands website.
As a fan who saw them in concert,i will miss them.
Rest in Peace Esbjorn we miss you
