Product Description

Product Description

Witness the most notoriously graphic and nasty descent into the nunsploitation genre with Gianfranco Mingozzi's unforgettable masterpiece of shock cinema that is Flavia The Heretic. Set during 15th Century Italy when brutality was wielded mercilessly in the name of God, young Flavia (Florinda Bolkan) is imprisoned in a monastery by her tyrannical father.

Rather than the years of quiet contemplation she might expect, the sexually frustrated Flavia instead gets a crash course in hell on earth as rape, torture, castration, bondage and worse becomes her world but that is nothing compared to what will become of her! Beautifully filmed by Alfio Contini (The Night Porter) and boasting a score by Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani this disturbingly cruel exploration of religiously condoned sexual violence is as well made as it is sadistic on the senses.

FLAVIA THE HERETIC (cert. 18) is released uncut (for the first time in the UK) on DVD by Shameless Screen Entertainment. The film is presented remastered in 1.85:1 with English 2.0 sound, in region 0. Also included on the disc is a Shameless original trailer gallery and the DVD comes presented with a reversible classic artwork sleeve.

Blimey, this naughty nunsploitation film from the early 1970s makes Ken Russell's "The Devils" look like "The Sound Of Music"! Set in 15th century Italy, the amazing Florinda Bolkan plays the title character who is sent to a convent by her father and then all Hell follows. She eventually escapes from the convent and joins an army of Muslim invaders and it then becomes payback time for all those who wronged her....

This movie is definitely not for the prudish or the squeamish. I'm sure that fans of European exploitation cinema will relish the scenes of rape, torture and castration but other viewers may find this film extremely heavy-going and uncomfortable to watch.

Hammer horror fans may wish to know that the film also stars Anthony Higgins (a.k.a. Anthony Corlan), the Northampton-born actor who appeared in "Taste The Blood Of Dracula" and "Vampire Circus", but "Flavia The Heretic" is a world apart from the Hammer movies in terms of its shocking content.

This DVD from Shameless Films presents the film in a 16 x 9 anamorphic ratio (for those of you who understand all that technical stuff) and the print is uncut so every sinful scene has been preserved in all its glory. If you dare, I suggest that you watch "Flavia" along with "Killer Nun" for a double helping of guilty pleasures and then pray for forgiveness afterwards.

Right, first off if you are expecting porn, you won't find it in this film, it isn't that type of movie.

Now seriously, for a flim made in the 70's this is really very good, the acting is first class, and the sets are beautiful. All in all this is a most entertaining story for both men and women, if you don't mind the odd bit of nudity. I must repeat it is worth watching simply for the quality of acting. Ultimately though I guess this would appeal more to fans of the medieval era, but there's certainly something for those of us who fondly remember the period adventure films of Sophia Loren.

I bought this film because I was collecting 'SHAMELESS' '70s giallo DVDs and thought I'd give it a go.
The story tells of a young girl (Flavia) who is forced into a Monastery by her Father she grows increasingly frustrated with the prison-like exsistence.
Sold as a Nunsploitation pic personally I think it is a cut above that (although it does have the nudity and torture).Flavia The Heretic [1974] [DVD]

After watching Flavia the Heretic I would say it is more than a nunsploitation. Yes, it has lots of nudity, torture and cruelty to animals. But also offers an interesting historical context, beautiful cinematography, and wonderful acting by Florinda Bolkan. The torture scenes became very gruesome because you feel them through Flavia's experiences. I've seen tons of exploitation and horror, and you do get a bit blase after a while (to be honest), but Flavia the Heretic re-ignited the horror. Without spoiling anything, I must say the end of the film has stuck with me, and probably will for a long time...

Highly recommended!

Good Italian film, some sex & violence, pretty good acting.
I believe it's historically true, but not sure.
Ending quite gory.

Probably good acting in this film but I was not keen on the torture seen at the end. Not erotic at all.
