If ever a title truly belonged to an album, then this is it. References to love through The Raveonettes’ back catalogue have been almost right–-and quite in line with pop music’s staple lyrical source, boy meets girl and so on thereafter, a cliché they’ve embraced wholeheartedly–-but their temperament has always been so much more immediate and passionate; percussion to shake the floor, distortion to make you see stars and overflowing 60s boy/girl harmonies to run through impulsively like summer rain. It's sweetness vs. the big noise, girl next door drawn to guy from wrong side of the tracks, that sort of thing. Lust Lust Lust just about covers it, actually. And after a fleeting dalliance with starker arrangements and variable song formulas on the hit and miss Pretty in Black they have returned dramatically to their reliable, urgent best. "Ally, Walk with Me" emerges from a dark, hypnotic swagger evocative of Xtrmntr era Primal Scream before descending into a spiralling welter of unforgiving feedback, yet still clings onto their own established icy demeanour–-a trick they’re adapt at by now having based much of their career on a standard Jesus & Mary Chain template, one they return to as "Hallucinations" gets going, on the surf guitar enhanced "Dead Sound" and the unavoidably gleaming and gorgeous "Blush". They drop the tempo for a Velvet Underground nod on the reverb heavy "Expelled from Love", but we can probably safely say it’s vintage Raveonettes too, because it is. All of it. --James Berry
