This is one of the worst films I've ever seen!

It tells the story of a bunch of scientists who can insert themselves into dreams. One of them becomes a perky young ginger girl in the dream world. All the while dark forces are intent on using their discovery for evil means. Which sounds pretty straight forward. But it's all so badly executed!

Non of the characters are engaging or sympathetic, least of all the 'red head alter ego' whose name gives the film it's title. The structure of the story is baffling and half the time I didn't have a clue what was going on. Just what are the baddies trying to do and how do the goodies beat them? Not a clue! This could be down to a poor translation job, I don't intend to find out.

For me the most annoying aspect of Paprika is the portrayal of women and the use of the female body.
We see full frontal nudes of the lead female character in a torture scene which seems to have little point to it, but all the male characters manage to keep their dignity through out: to the point where a giant naked man is drawn without any genitals. Also, the lead female expresses her shame at falling in love with a very fat man.
So how's that for equality!

The bottom line: Paprika has some lovely looking sequences of house hold objects marching through dream land, but absolutely nothing else to recommend it by. It's baffling and boring in equal parts and also quite nasty. It left an extremely bad taste in my mouth.

Sure, this movie can be a little confusing, but I understood it the first time I saw it - and I would explain it all here if it wasn't because it would spoil the movie. You can probably find it on IMDB or Wikipedia anyways.

It's a very beautiful movie, and it doesn't bother me at all that we see a naked woman being ripped open from the inside.. Maybe because I'm not american and doesn't have a problem with a couple of tits in my movies? Anyways, there wasn't anything that shocked me.

I'm not a movie expert but if you like beautiful imaginative anime movies, I think this is worth checking out.
